I’m not knocking any of our coaches. Especially not Big Mac. I’m just saying the HC in Dallas has limited authority compared to almost all other HCs.

I think the Garrett and Mike has quite a bit more authority than we think.

Yes, they have more and all of on the field authority than most will want to admit. It is the disdain against the FO that many will keep holding onto that Jerry controls everything. Right down to calling plays.

Then the same people would complain about the clock management guy. That he sucks, and he too needs a clock management guy (or gal) to help him out.

Rodgers made a good point about MM- said he has a low football IQ. You can see that in the way MM cant run a 2 minute clock and the way he didnt pick up up on the team penalty problem (lead the league) until after the playoff loss
Drew's forgot more football than this beat writer knows. Why does he have to be on the team? he played the game and for the best coach in the game. The beat writer's never played and isnt as you say "on the building everyday"

I fully expect Mike to fulfill his 5 year contract.
1st season was a wash with all the injuries and he just went 12-5. Ya the schedule was weak but you play who you're set to play.

I wish McCarthy luck and hope he uses his long years of experience to advantage in the upcoming season. I see him as a considerably favorable HC, as compared to what we've had in Jason Garrett. JG ended up being more of a cheerleader than a head coach. Quite a smart guy, though, no doubt.

I'm sure it's not being overly kind, but JG seemed more of a polished speaker than a HC. McCarthy seems the opposite. He's not a great speaker but has the sort of personality that likely appeals to the players more. I'm hoping he helps Kellen Moore in the area of offensive play calling. I'll surely wish him a season of rewarding success in 2022. There's no doubt this team sorely needs that to happen. If so, many young players may benefit.

Because he played doesn't mean he knows more about coaching or the game today as far as that goes.3. Being around the team gives more insight into what's happening in and around the team. 4.

let me preface this- I have nothing against you but do think your assessment is wrong and willing to argue your points.

1- re Aaron Rodgers being as you call "an idiot". Thats your belief and just because you dont like him as a person doesn't mean he doesn't know football. He will be 1st ballot HOF inductee. MM wont be. Terry Bradshaw was probably a bigger idiot but I still value his thoughts on the game. Player personalities dont override their knowledge of the game.

2- re MM- Aaron Rodgers stated that a majority of the time MM's play calls were ignored when they came into the huddle because they were archaic and showed a low football IQ. If you remember the last year and half when MM coached the Packers he had completely lost the players backing. When he came here he made us go through a year of Nolan and last year admitted he refused to help Moore when he was floundering. He was completely out coached in the SF game. He cant handle a 2 minute clock and that will cost us 1-3 games this year.
Why do you think every team skipped over him when he was let go. Jerry was the only person to show any interest and that was only after he couldnt get Payton. Jax, Cleveland, Jets, Washington all all needed help but passed on him

3- Re Drew. He played 11 years under the best coach in the game and is a HOF and SB champion himself. He learned how to win (every year we had a winning record) and what is needed to be considered a good coach and how they operate. Your writer is just looking for clicks and said nothing of value to justify his comments

again- I will put more weight in anything Drew says over some beat writer. If you dont agree please give me facts why this beat writer would know more other than you follow him

Im giving him a pass the first season. Covid was a mess. I count last season as his True first season.

If he can repeat double digit wins and take us further past in playoffs this season , I would consider him far better than Garrett.

Again Rodgers is an idiot, he proves that more than once, the fact other players talked great about McCarty. Adam's, Bulaga, Bakhtiari shows Rodgers foolishness. It's well documented Rodgers held a grudge against McCarthy for the draft where Smith was selected ahead of him, so Rodgers words ring hollow.

"Knowing we were in it every year, I think there's something to say about that," said right tackle Bryan Bulaga, a first-round pick in 2010. "A lot of people weren't upset when we were winning division titles and making runs in the playoffs. I think people need to look at it from that standpoint. Besides being a really good football coach, he was a great man, too. It's been an honor to play for him the last nine years."

Payton had nothing to do with them hiring McCarthy, McCarthy was the only coach they interviewed outside of Lovie Smith for the Rooney rule. The Giants was in on him too.

story isnt new -McCarthy was plan B when a deal for Payton fell through. Gayle Benson didnt want to lose 2 big name people from his sports teams.

It was a delicate situation, for various reasons. First, the Cowboys had a coach. Jones wouldn’t have fired Garrett unless he knew he could have gotten Payton. Second, league rules (specifically, the Rooney Rule) require a diverse and inclusive search. Third, Jones had to ultimately know that, after going through the motions of a search, he’d be able to get Payton.


So a deal was worked out, behind the scenes. The Saints would have allowed the Cowboys to hire Payton. The Cowboys would have compensated the Saints for the rights to Payton’s contract. And Payton would have signed a new contract with the Cowboys.


It was ready to go. It was happening. It was locked, and it was loaded. Then came Monday, January 28. On that day, New Orleans Pelicans forward Anthony Davis announced he would not sign another contract with the team, and he requested a trade. (In July, the Pelicans traded him to the Lakers.)


Gayle Benson owns both the Pelicans and the Saints. Saints G.M. Mickey Loomis was, as of January 2019, the executive vice president of basketball operations with the Pelicans. Once Davis made clear his intention to leave New Orleans, Loomis told Payton that Loomis couldn’t be the common thread between a pair of such high-profile Louisiana departures.


That ended it, just like that. The Saints were no longer interested in essentially trading Payton to the Cowboys. In September, Payton signed a new contract. That deal has three years left on it.
