In 2008 Green Bay went 6-10 -- sound familiar?

The Packers were coming off a 2007 season where they made the playoffs -- sound familiar?

They had a lot of the talent they needed already on the roster than went 6-10, but clearly not enough -- sound familiar?

In the 2009 draft, based on their 6-10 record, they ended up with the 9th pick overall. They had a monster draft and took Raji 9th and then traded up back into the 1st round and took Clay Matthews in the late 20's. The rest is history.

Where I am going with this is this our BEST chance to improve this team and get the Cowboys back to into the playoffs. Jerry and the scouting staff MUST HIT on this upcoming draft with the 9th pick.

we are not as talented as they are. ON defense and offense. Our OL is not talented and need 4/5 of it replaced. we need DEs, Safties which we don't have. we also lack depth.

Its not like they have superstars everywhere, Rodgers makes their oline look much better, they have no running game at all.

Kinda where I am going with this -- you must have Blue Chippers to be a SB caliber team. The best teams have maybe 4-5 of them. The Packers picked up two in the 1st round of that draft.

We need to need to hit big in this draft. I just don't believe the Cowboys can be fixed through Free Agency.

DeMarcus Ware, Jay Ratliff, Jason Witten, Miles Austin, Tony Romo.

Packers 5:

Clay Matthews, Aaron Rodgers, BJ Raji, Charles Woodson, Greg Jennings.

I'd take our 5.

Their defense gets turnovers.

I like our offense as much as theirs but turnovers + run defense is what seperates us from them.

I'd take our 5.

Dez Bryant, Sean Lee, Terence Newman, Bradie James, Doug Free, Felix Jones...

see where I'm going with this?

AND Matthews, except for Mendenhall carrying the football like a loaf of bread, was largely invisible in the Super Bowl.

Now we have Ryan to match their Capers.

Should and hope its the difference maker.

They also limit points given up.

There defense this season gave up 240 points.

A Cowboy defense hasn't done that since the early 90's.

Yeah this brings me to something I forgot to add.. They have better coaching + leadership.

Hopefully our new Regime will match some of that.

I'd take our 5.

My intent is not to compare our Blue Chippers to the Packers. If I was doing that I'd point they also have:

Tramon Williams (maybe the best CB in the NFC this year)
Nick Collins (Maybe the best Safety in the NFC this year)
Josh Sitton (Fantastic young guard)
etc

My point is this -- we need to find more young Blue Chippers in the draft. The average age of Romo, Ratliff, Witten and Ware is 30 years old. That doesn't bode well for your team when your best players are averaging 30 years of age. The Packers best players probably average what, maybe 26 years old?

Witten is 28, Ware is 28, Romo is 30.

Romo is 31 in two months. Ratliff is 30 before the season start. Not trying to quibble but the average is near 30.

Bringing in 30+ year old players like Asomugha and Cullen Jenkins as many have been advocating isn't going to help the situation.

We need to find starters in the draft.

Ratliff, ware and Witten are all under 30. Romo is 30 and only has 4 years of NFL game grind on his body. 2 of those 4 seasons were half seasons at that.

The age of these guys isn't what hurts us. They are all good for atleast another 4 or more years.

It would be nice to bring in a few starters in the draft, but its not done as simply as its said.

We need Ted Thompson instead of Jerry Jones :(.

Ted Thompson can spot a quality player at any time.

Yeah take Sean Lee for instance.

Supposedly the Cowboys had a 1st round grade on him and that guy couldn't get off a block to save his life last season.

We need some luck for sure.

9/11 Starters on the Pittsburgh Defense is 30+ years Old and they still perform like there in there mid 20s. Age doesnt affect most positions till 33+ unless your a RB.

While we do need what you mentioned. We are just as talented and played like a talented team under Garrett.

With our current team we can play with any team and do very well. Against any team in this league if we played them 10x we could easily win 6 or 7 times with the current talent.

Imagine after a "tweak" here and "tweak" there....
