Cowboys’ team doctor is confident in Jaylon Smith’s knee

5 pages of close to zero discussion and almost entirely feeding the troll. His posting pattern is to get people riled up by making ludicrous comments. Don't feed him people.

I don't know. I had fun entering this thread after 10 pages and see how something stated as fact became an opinion.

Communicating isn't for everyone.

No you don't. Anyone who makes the declaration that he will never play again, with no evidence to back it up, is just wishful thinking.

It is just as ignorant to make the statement that he will never play again as it is to say that he will come back 100%. Both are possible. This is not a black or white issue. There are many shades of gray. As I said in another post, I have several nerves that are damaged and give me problems from time to time. The surgeries that I had to relieve the pain from those nerves was ten years ago. It is possible that the nerves will have certain degrees of numbness, have a burning sensation, have a tingling feeling or many more different sensations . Those could last a lifetime. There are test that determines if a nerve is damaged, but there is not a test that determines how it will eventually heal. The doctor can make an educated guess based on similar injuries and the long term results, but guessing us all that he can do. The different sensations he has may not be severe enough to hamper his playing ability at all or it is possible that they limit his physical activity. At his age, I hope that he returns to top form, but it is far from certain. Yes, age is a big factor in the healing process. I have read many statements that said the nerve was only stretched, not damaged. Stretching the nerve is damage. The fact that DR. Cooper works for the Cowboys is not a big advantage IMO. The only realistic way to look at this is to say that Smith seems to be healing well and there are reasons to be optimistic,
Dr. Cooper feels confident in a full recovery for Jaylon
Dallas Cowboys feels confident in a full recovery for Jaylon
Jaylon feels confident in a full recovery for him
No setback or perceived setback
Message board trolls feels confident in Jaylon never playing again.

As long as nothing changes with those 4 I'm gonna be confident in a full recovery for Jaylon.
I find it hilarious that until Dallas drafted Smith that the reality was that he is recovering well, but is recovery was no sure thing. By turning in that draft card, Jerry healed him. Now there is no doubt that he will recover 100%. I certainly hope the young man recovers, there was no miraculous recovery from his pre-draft condition to his current state of recovery. Things are looking good, but nothing about his recovery is certain.

I just find that hard to believe. If it is true, his agent let him down unless there was a deal between all parties and Dallas agreed as part of that deal to take him by a specific spot.

Something about this stinks if true and Goodell will find some way to punish Dallas if Mara chooses to push Goodell to do so .

No one was taking him this high anyways. Some team's doctor gave him a 20% chance to ever play.

I don't personally believe there was any deal. Smith's reaction on draft day seemed genuine, surprised, and extremely thankful. It didn't seem at all like he knew it was coming but, then again, he had a house full of people even though most thought he wouldn't go until the following day. He simply may have been expecting it to come much later on day 2. Who knows. I still find it hard to believe the Cowboys knew more than any other team unless they got a last minute update that included very good news and didn't have enough time to get around.

I don't care if you believe me. I told you the truth, believing it is up to you. It doesn't change the outcome one way or the other. Smith will never play again.

I'm a physical therapist, and I can confidently say that you have no idea what you're talking about.

They guy that did the operation is just covering his own hide. In time you will see, that foot drop is permanent.

Covering his own hide would be the exact opposite of telling your GM that hes most likely going to make a full recovery and giving him the go ahead to draft him. If anything he is sticking his neck out.

Yeah, I do. I might be wrong but I said what I meant to say. If you're telling me that 100% of the people you treat as a physical therapist are cured then I will bow to you and change my opinion. Otherwise I'll stick to my opinion.

You're the one speaking in generalities, not me.

That was an oddly written piece in NBC_PFT. They go straight to calling the doctor "Cooper" without ever saying his full name and not even using "Dr" other than from a direct quote from someone else. lol No big, deal...just odd.

In journalism, it is a big deal. You're supposed to introduce your source and his/her credibility to the story. Without referencing Cooper by his first name or "Dr.", you lessen his believability.

I said his drop foot is permanent. I never said "100%".

Every team relies on their team doctors. None of the the other doctors opened up the knee so none of them are willing to stick their neck out there on an optimistic prognosis.

Even when they have the same information some of those team doctors will still have a more pessimistic opinion than others. Larry Allen as an example had shoulder surgery before his rookie year. Green Bay doctors failed him on his shoulder and recommended the team not draft him even though they had 1st round grades on him. Cowboys team doctors and trainers told the front office that he just needed to finish his rehab so they took him in the 2nd round.
