Cowboys’ team doctor is confident in Jaylon Smith’s knee

That nerve needs to grow about 6 inches. At a rate of growth of about an inch a month, he won't be playing this year. Maybe next year he'll be ready.

1 to 1 1/2 inches a month which means anywhere from early June to early September is a possibility.

Nerve stays dormant for the first month.

It's been 4 months since the surgery.

**************
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones explained Wednesday morning that although the team doesn't expect Smith to play in 2016, the Cowboys "really believe that we're going to have a special football player for years to come."

"We have a firm belief, if you look at the history of injuries like this, that the nerve ultimately fires, some take longer than others," Jones said on ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike show.

"But at the end of the day, we think it will. And then once it does fire, usually it takes about - our guys say - from an inch to an inch and a half per month in terms of ultimately healing and getting full feeling back.
We feel really good about that.

"[Team physician Dan] Cooper sat us down and walked us through other injuries where the nerve didn't fire right away and then ultimately it did and ultimately they made a full recovery to be the player they had been before the injury."

The injury was 4 months ago. There are 12 months in a year. Your math is right there with your vocabulary.

This was report as current on draft day so my math is spot on. Why are you so reluctant to accept the reality of the situation? 2016, he won't play.

You just don't want to accept the truth.

Nothing like having someone who is just outright negative on the forum. You didn't do the surgery, you have no idea of what will turn out only the Lord himself does.

You Sir have assumptions, you do know what happens when you assume don't ya?

Your guesses are now the truth? Love the megalomania. Good job.

Truth is he has a better chance at a full recovery than your claim of no recovery at all. You should study axonotmesis which you clearly have not.

He's not playing this year. Period, end of story.

It's not that you merely offered an opinion. It's that ...

1. You expressed 100 percent certainty that he would never play a down for the Cowboys and that he would never recover from drop foot,
2. You basically questioned the motive of the doctor who performed the surgery
3. You - not being a doctor yourself - seem to know more about Smith's condition than the doctor who performed the surgery and
4. Having been called out by a majority of the posters in this thread, you didn't take the graceful way out but, instead, remained obstinate to the end.

I think if you had simply said, "I don't think he's going to come back," you might have gotten your typical criticism from the Pollyannas among us. But I don't think it would have been nearly as resounding as it has been.

Just my two cents. And it may only be worth two cents. :)

The whole thing is calculated and was entirely meant to draw reactions. Just ask @iceberg about that posters habits.

People that have to assume the worst because of how they react to adverse circumstances are amusing. Repeating it ad nauseum is a nice touch.

I suppose the Cowboys are not going to put him on IR to give him a chance to play this year because they don't know the truth right?

He's going on the non-football injury list which buys the team about 12 weeks. Then he will get re-evaluated and most likely IR. He'll try again next year.
