Cowboys 0-4 in preseason; are you worried?

He's referring to Jerry not firing Garrett mid seaon and I have to agree. Regardless of how bad it gets this season Jerry won't fire Garrett until after the season because there's no one on the coaching staff Jerry wants as his next HC. Jerry's been grooming Garrett to be the Cowboys HC ever since he brought him to Dallas in 07 as the OC. I believe Jerry had a 5 year plan with Garrett when he took over as HC but a losing season and not having anything to play for entering week 17 will throw a wrench in Jerry's plan.

When Jerry hired Garrett to take over in 2011 I doubt he anticipated 3 straight 8-8 seasons and having to concede the Cowboys are facing an uphill battle entering the 2014 season. He had leverage to bring Garrett back for 2014 with the Cowboys competing for the division title for a 3rd straight year entering week 17. If the Cowboys have a losing season in 2014 and are playing out the schedule entering week 17 Jerry will have no choice but to fire Garrett. Hard to spin you're making progress coming off a losing season after 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons.

Thanks for the clarification, I agree with everything you said

If they can go 2-2 the first 4 weeks......they got a chance.

Otherwise...if they dig themselves a whole.....

They could fire Garrett ...Just like they did Wade mid-season....

Comments...

I am worried for far more reasons that the 0 and 4 preseason.
Namely the "Dumpster Fire Defense" looks worse than last years record setter.

Bad year upcoming. Most of us expect it, even our talented GM knows it. I didnt even bother buying the NFL Ticket this year. I'll catch them on national telecasts, and thats good enough. I am actually buying the NBA package this year rather than the NFL Ticket. If the man that is ultimately responsible for putting this team together isn't very optimistic, how can fans be?

I'm not worried because I understand it takes time to construct a dynasty - which Jason is. Me saying that will upset some people. I don't care.

Worried, not even when after the official Cease Fire, a Brigade of Elite Guard attempted a break out with only two Battalions in defense...the Apaches ran out of ammo during the first 45 minutes and the average confirmed tank type targets were three per Abram in the first 9 seconds of the battle...

I'm still trying to decide which is best for the team, going to 2-2 or bombing out and Garrett getting fired...

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on that Jason built football dynasty.

No. When kickoff time nears on Sunday, what happened during the preseason is going to be the furthest thing from everybody's mind. The preseason is absolutely, positively, no room for debate meaningless.

The preseason is absolutely, positively, no room for debate meaningless.

If preseason were meaningless there wouldn't be a preseason. The games don't count but there's significance to playing them. The future of many players depend on how they perform in preseason. Organizations decide on their 53 man roster each season based a lot on preseason performances. Teams risk the health of their starters so they can work off the rust in these games to prepare them for the regular season. The Cowboys 0-4 preseason didn't count in the standings but it showed all the work they've done this offseason/summer has yet to improve the team. This was Garrett's 4th preseason and he still has the Cowboys spinning their wheels.

The preseason isn't always an indicator of what is to come during the regular season but in the Cowboys case I believe it is based on possibly the worst offseason in franchise history. The Cowboys haven't tasted victory since week 16 of last season. I don't believe entering the regular season winless in your last 5 games is going to boost the confidence of a team that hasn't seen the playoffs or had a winning season in 4 years and who everyone thinks is headed for a losing season in 2014.

The Cowboys 0-4 preseason only confirmed what everyone has been saying about them all summer. What the team has shown this preseason can't have the players or coaches beaming with much confidence. The Cowboys preseason had such a stench to it, it has the biggest Cowboys homer of them all Jerry conceding the odds are long and that the team faces an uphill battle this season. Even Garrett is starting to look and sound like he's preparing the team for a suicide mission this season.

He repeated the other day what he said after the loss to Philly in week 17 last season that's hard to win games in the NFL. He said all you can do is field the players you have and try and coach them up. He knows the Cowboys defense lacks talent he's just hoping he has a few players that will step up this season with the opportunity they'll be given. It may be the last opportunity for some of those players.

You talk about examining players and knocking rust off then turn your post around to argue that it indicates progress....thats all in the first paragraph. I stopped at that point because it was already completely contradictory. The preseason record is meaningless.

The preseason record is meaningless.

Jimmy certainly didn't feel like the preseason record was meaningless when he arrived in Dallas in 89. He was taking over a bad team that was use to losing and he wanted to build a winning attitude. He wanted his team to play well in preseason and learn how to win games regardless they didn't count. The Cowboys 3-1 preseason in 89 didn't carry over to the regular season because Jimmy played his best players but Jimmy always played to win. Solid teams coming off winning seasons and playoff births don't need to win in preseason to have confidence the following season but bad/mediocre teams do.

If you continue to see the bad/mediocre play in preseason that you saw the previous regular season you're in trouble. I doubt the Cowboys planned on an 0-4 preseason full of penalties and the same mediocre play we keep seeing every preseason. The Cowboys psyche is already fragile as it is and their preseason play certainly didn't help their confidence.

I think that the tone and attitude of the team will be reflected in the performances of the veterans and leaders on the Cowboys. We should have a pretty good window to observe...by mid-season.

I'm concerned we'll go 8 and 8 and give Jerry an excuse to give us more of a 'nonaccountable' Garrett. This needs to be a make or break year for Garrett. Give us a 10+ win season and make the play-offs and demonstrate progress or it's time to change coaches.

Honestly, I didn't even think about being 0-4 this preseason until reading the title of this post. So, no, the preseason record doesn't concern me. But the overall lack of talent, especially established talent, does concern me. With Lee out, this defense appears to be without a single top-shelf player. And the depth is worrisome.

Obviously you didn't watch any games.....there is 0-4 and then there is the Cowboys 0-4 debacle. Losing is one thing...losing bad is another. This season maybe over before it's even started. And if this thing starts going south in a hurry....I can see this thing blowing up mid-season ala Wade Phillips style. Usually a team has hope going into the year....right now I sense....panic and total lack of vision for the direction of this team. It's as if drunk Jerry is behind the wheel of the team bus

so just go ahead and pack it in.please jump off the bus. don't watch any games since the season is already over.
