I'm worrried, because they're not that talented on the defensive side of the ball.

cowboyszone was worried about the Cowboys long before their 0-4 preseason. The Cowboys 0-4 preseason only confirmed what most of us have been saying all summer that the team isn't very good and is headed for a long season. Yes these were only preseason games but we continued to see the same issues we've been seeing every summer and this preseason was worse than the previous 3 preseasons under Garrett. The Cowboys gave up over 25 points a game and even the starting offense didn't look very impressive. With the loss of the Cowboys 3 best defensive players from last season and the loss of their top defensive pick until at least Oct and the loss of arguably their best corner for the first 4 games of the regular season the writing is pretty much on the wall for what we can expect in 2014.

I've been following the Cowboys since 1972 and have never seen as discouraging an offseason/summer as they've had this year. I can't recall any team taking as big a hit on one side of the ball that the Cowboys have taken. The defense was already the worst in franchise history now it's been depleted of it's best players. The Cowboys are in a situation where if Romo or Dez were lost for the season whatever the Cowboys win total is at that point will likely remain their win total for the rest of the season.

Everyone knew the defense was going to be turrible, what the most worrying thing is that Scott "The Genius" Linehan looks a lot Jason "Focus More Time On The Defense" Garrett.

Honestly.

I am worried.

Worried about the unknown about this defense.

We can all sit here and talk about how much this defense sucks.

But in reality we don't truly know.

And then there's the offense.

I really wish they hadn't sputtered like they did against Miami.

I'm more upbeat about them though.

That's where we've seen them produce in the past.

Here's to hoping Melton produces.

Even the biggest Cowboys homer of them all Jerry Jones is conceding the team faces an uphill battle this season.

No. Because i'm a rational human being.

I guess even Jerry is now irrational because even he has now admitted that the odds are long for the team this year

First time in a long time I ever remember Jerry being worried about the season. Usually he is talking the team up and selling them as a playoff team.

I think even Jerry realizes that this season is going to be rough

I think the odds are long. But the question was are you worried because the team went 0-4 in the preseason. My answer to that is an emphatic no.

So a 5 or 6 win season gets Garrett an extension?

Don't think Jerry has the balls to do that.

He's referring to Jerry not firing Garrett mid seaon and I have to agree. Regardless of how bad it gets this season Jerry won't fire Garrett until after the season because there's no one on the coaching staff Jerry wants as his next HC. Jerry's been grooming Garrett to be the Cowboys HC ever since he brought him to Dallas in 07 as the OC. I believe Jerry had a 5 year plan with Garrett when he took over as HC but a losing season and not having anything to play for entering week 17 will throw a wrench in Jerry's plan.

When Jerry hired Garrett to take over in 2011 I doubt he anticipated 3 straight 8-8 seasons and having to concede the Cowboys are facing an uphill battle entering the 2014 season. He had leverage to bring Garrett back for 2014 with the Cowboys competing for the division title for a 3rd straight year entering week 17. If the Cowboys have a losing season in 2014 and are playing out the schedule entering week 17 Jerry will have no choice but to fire Garrett. Hard to spin you're making progress coming off a losing season after 3 consecutive 8-8 seasons.

http://www.***BANNED-URL***/sports/...-would-take-big-hit-with-an-0-4-preseason.ece

"Bad in August usually translates into bad in the fall. There have been 29 teams that have gone winless in preseasons since 2000. Only five managed to rebound to make the playoffs.

Four of them won division titles. But three of those survivors — the Colts of 2005 and 2010 and the Cardinals of 2009 — were also defending division titles at the time.

The 2005 Colts, in fact, rebounded from an 0-5 preseason to win their first 13 games of the regular season. That preseason turned out to be just a hiccup for a good team.

But for most teams, it’s not. Of the 29 winless preseasons, 16 of the teams posted losing records and six more finished at .500."

indy went 0-4. giants went 5-0, seattle went 2-2....

that's enough to see you don't put any weight into pre-season

Obviously you didn't watch any games.....there is 0-4 and then there is the Cowboys 0-4 debacle. Losing is one thing...losing bad is another. This season maybe over before it's even started. And if this thing starts going south in a hurry....I can see this thing blowing up mid-season ala Wade Phillips style. Usually a team has hope going into the year....right now I sense....panic and total lack of vision for the direction of this team. It's as if drunk Jerry is behind the wheel of the team bus

There's a lot to be said for the Cowboys preseason performance because we keep seeing the same thing every preseason. This is a team that not only hasn't shown any improvement but appears to have gotten worse. Even Jerry is discouraged by what he's seen. You don't lose the talent the Cowboys lost on defense this offseason/summer and not put some weight on the mediocre play we saw this preseason.

The Cowboys and Colts were the only teams to go 0-4 in preseason. I wouldn't read too much into the Colts 0-4 preseason because of how well they've played the past 2 seasons but I would be very concerned with the Cowboys 0-4 preseason because the last time they went 0-4 in preseason it led to the first of 3 straight 5-11 seasons.

If they can go 2-2 the first 4 weeks......they got a chance.

Otherwise...if they dig themselves a whole.....

They could fire Garrett ...Just like they did Wade mid-season....

Comments...

Not only will they dig themselves a whole, but also a hole.

If the cowboys went 4-0 would the attitude around here be different?

I think the answer is no.
