Not much from the 3rd rounders......
Eh, most of them were/are starters and a couple others were/are relied upon rotationally. I’d be curious to see how it stacks up with the rest of the league but I can’t imagine that it’s any worse than average.

Starters: T-Will, Maliek Collins, J-Lew, Gallup, Connor McGovern, and Osa.

Rotational: Gallimore and Gholston

TBD: Tolbert

Leaves only Wilcox (who was a valuable
STer), Chaz Green, and Nahshon as guys who haven’t been starters or reliable rotational level players. Perhaps Gallimore slides in here as well but he’s played a lot more than these guys.

All in all that’s pretty good for the 3rd. Solid starters and rotational guys is kinda what you get here. Key word here is “starters” not “stars”. Haven’t had any huge performers in the 3rd recently but few duds as well.

Compared to most other teams this is actually a pretty good hit rate. Once you get to the 3rd round my expectations start to drop a little bit too. You get a decent rotational player or fringe starter in the 3rd, especially one that you either retain on a reasonable 2nd contract or leave and nets you a comp pick I would consider a success.

Just because they start a JAG doenst mean it was a good pick. Just means they were so bad at the position its all they had. Gallup is the ONLY guy that we could say was a good pick.

All depends on personal metrics of judging performance.
It can be positive or negative depending on what questions are asked and how they are answered with regards to how a draftee plays.

What is the absolute performance goal of a Cowboy 2nd round pick?
Day 1 starter? Rotational but heavy contributor?
Pro bowl caliber
All Pro?

And ultimately, with all things considered, worthy of a 2nd contract?

Imo, how some or all of these questions are answered determines the different levels of success associated with determining whether the 2nd rd choice was a good pick or not.

It's a case by case thing with varying levels of success.

And ultimately I guess you could apply this battery of questions to the 3rd rounders and all other rounds as well.

Ya we have kind of missed the mark in both rounds . Ideally you’d like to hit on all of them but having 2 2 nd rounders as starters is not something to brag on jury still out on Williams though

And 3rd rounders Gallup and McGovern maybe Osa

For as much flack as the front office gets for its second round…they aren’t nearly as bad as I thought. A few starters and a all pro.

And y’all are afraid to trade these picks

26+ 3rd for Bijan

No brainer
That moves us up from 26 to 20 at best. Will he be there at 20? I'm not totally against that, as that would be what the Cowboys would have to do to get him. But wouldn't it be better just to draft Gibbs at 26 and keep the 3rd rounder? Either way I'm good. Our 3rd rounders are usually bums anyway.

Just saying they're starters doesn't mean much. They have to be good. Lots of teams have really krappy starters....which shouldn't be used as proof that they're good drafters.

So you did a league wide analysis on this and came to this conclusion or you just said it hoping we'd all buy it?

I've always found it to maybe be better to begin with a lead in of In my Opinion...
Or something similar.
