That Tapper pick never working out was a disappointment.
Like many of their 4th and 5th round DE selections. They would say they weren't used correctly in college, or were raw, needed time.
Well the coaching stafff here did not know how to use them either.

Jury still out on Golston. Armstrong seems a good pick, but will he be what they want him to be, or more like what the fans want him to be. Maybe he is exactly what the team wants him to be. Will see how he progresses this season.

But go back further.
Tapper, Anae, Joe Jackson, Jelks (though a 7th round), Ryan Russell (another player touted to be a steal), Gardner, Crawford (kept way too long).

None of them worked out.

You just can’t help yourself. It is impossible for anyone to have a football discussion with you. There is nothing negative/pessimistic about his post just because he doesn’t agree with your stance on every single player on the list. Damn man, the dude said the list would be a win if it were first round selections and you still called his opinions pessimistic. :lmao2:
I would expect you to agree with him. You’re always negative and grouchy.

He did ok for a 4th rounder.
Switzer did what a 4th round pick was supposed to do. Contribute to your abilities and what is asked.
Some fans expect every pick to be an impact starter. 4th round picks usually are not. However, it is the hope of teams for them to develop into a solid starter. Many fans do not want to understand that.
Therefore they feel the need to complain.

Did OK at what? Sitting still for his mouth tattoo? He was off the team in a year (traded for nothing that provided any value) and bounced around the league for a few years before they all gave up on him.
He was alright for a 4th rounder.

You can’t expect a 4th rounder to be a 1st round talent, but conversely it’s also not a 7th round throwaway pick. Getting 1 year of special teams play for a 4th round pick is bad value; no more emphasized than the other names on that list

Switzer was a cowboys for 1 season and then got traded for a guy who didn’t make your 53. No one would ever make that pick again with hindsight
Memory isn't my strongest trait, but I think we wanted him as a punt returner more than a Beasley clone/replacement.

Even Bill Parcells had the 2-3 year trial and some actual time on the clock and carpet...

I thought Tapper might be something. Lol. We do very well in the 4th, but getting a franchise qb doesn't hurt the average.
I was on a business trip in Boston during that draft.

I remember being stoked we drafted Tapper and confused at the Dak pick

This is where scouts earn their money IMO.........we have done very well.

BTW......I know some fans/posters have penciled Ferguson as starting material, but are we sure he's ready?
Are sure he's not? So often said around here is " progress stopper", except in this case...

He was alright for a 4th rounder.
By that measure, Noah Brown (in the same draft) was a first ballot Hall of Famer.

Switzer amassed 6 catches for 41 yards in his Cowboys career with 4 for 32 coming in the brutal 6-0 week 17 win against Philly who sat everyone. So we're talking 2 catches for 9 yards in games that mattered. He had one punt return TD, but also a killer fumble that essentially cost us the Rams game. Dallas gave up a 6th round pick the following April to the Rams to try to obtain what they coun't with Switzer (Tavon Austin).

The following players were taken after Switzer just in that last part of the 4th round:

Jamaal Williams
Joshua Dobbs
Sean Harlow
Zach Banner
Wayne Gallman
Carlos Watkins
Marlon Mack
Grover Stewart

Future Hall of Famer (for real) George Kittle was taken with the second pick of the 5th round (right after Denver took TE Jake Butt).

If that's the standard for an "alright" draft pick, we might want to recalibrate. He gave them 2 catches for 9 yards in competitive games, accounted for some inconsistent return game success (and catastrophe) for that one season, and resulted in the need to trade a 6th the next draft for a vet to do the same job. Hey, at least they didn't just cut him after the one season. They traded him for Jihad Ward who didn't even make it past the final roster cuts.

Boy Switzer sure is getting a lot of post comments and attention on this thread. Must be like Christmas for him. I do hope he sees it. I bet he would love the attention be it good or bad.

Why so uptight? You can’t even acknowledge the good picks and have to spend all that time trying to prove a negative. That’s sad.

The Cowboys have drafted really well the past decade. Probably as well as any NFL team. That is the thing that has kept them an average to slightly above average team. The trouble is not in their drafting. The troubles has been not using trades and free agency to fill holes in the roster, signing extensions for players too early and for too much money, clinging to a head coach for 9.5 years who obviously was not the answer....i.e. most every thing else. But this offseason they seem to be improving on some of those things. We can hope....
Vent bro but we all know this, like a support forum around here.... lol
