In fairness, Thornton was actually pretty good in Philly before we signed him, granted as a 3-4 DE and not as a 4-3 DT. So you could at least somewhat justify his signing.

Carroll was a turd for a few years in Philly and we ran after him like a dog after a stick of meat.

He was a total mismatch for us. Completely undersized and under-powered for what we somehow asked him to do. And we quickly realized it and the guy never saw the field. Just awful, awful pro scouting.

And they chased after that bum not once, but twice! I guess they missed those games where our own offense abused the guy. And millions of dollars for ONE GAME! And then the guy's totally done in the league and takes twitter potshots at the team he stole $4 million from.

    Nice work boys.

We’re a pretty good team. Talent wise we’re comparable. They’re better at QB and have a fantastic HC and would beat us. But that’s really. It my point. My point is in how Cowboys fans generally react to the fact we’re not the best team in the league. You can have high expectations and still not act like babies when they’re not met.

Sure, if what you are talking about is like a 5 year lull here or there.

It's been 23 years since this team won anything of note. 23 years. Only 8 teams in the NFL have less playoff wins over that period than Dallas - Dolphins, Texans, Redskins, Chiefs, Lions, Bills, Bengals and Browns. We are tied with the Raiders with 4 playoffs wins. That would be 23rd in the league over that period.

So that's why the criticism is loud and gets louder year after year. Because it's been a fairly embarrassing run for a franchise that some claim is an elite NFL franchise and they seemingly can't seem to figure out how to change the trajectory of the franchise.

And yet many fans here continue to say how worthless the FO is.

    Correct....

The last 5 plus years the Cowboys have shown discipline in managing their CAP space.

About the same amount of time Stephen Jones and Will McClay seem to have taken over.

It isn't about discipline ..... it is being cheap.... they have record revenues and spend like GB on players

They are a lot closer to the 90% Cash Floor than they should be

And most of the Cap Space has come from a Cap that has gone up nearly 70m in 6 years and at the same time we have cut our top 6 players:

DWare, DMurray, Romo, Witten, Claiborne, Dez plus Carr, Church, Parnell, Leary

We aren’t as bad as the fans see us. Just not where we want to be.

I can except not being the best team in the league every year, but what I can't except is our inability to build on success and maintain momentum beyond one year.

The Pats are an exception in the era of the salary cap and free agency, but several teams have managed at least two trips to the SB and have won at least one since 2000 (Ravens, Steelers, Eagles, Giants, Rams, Seahawks, Broncos) and others have been once and won or at least got to one.

We've won three playoff games in total in that period and not been close on any occasion.

And the man who has been in charge all that time is still in charge and not likely to be going anywhere soon.

    Why would anybody be optimistic??

How could you be pleased with that return?

    So stats be dammed!

Show me on the field of play!

as far as talent the cowboys are pretty close to most teams in the league except in the two main things quarterback and head coach and staff

Cowboys should go all in for the chip in 2019... then use 2020 to reload on the fly...

Tag Lawrence(can you do that 2 years straight)... then let him walk after 2019
Bring David Irving back... yep... We going all in..
Let B. Jones walk after 2019
    Let Elliot walk after 2019
Possible 2020 extensions for Dak and Amari if things pan out right in 2019

Locking in long term to all these guys would be a terrible mistake

Well the team used to suck and was always in cap hell.

Now the team has a talented young roster and cap space to secure key players for long-term and possibly sign a big name in free agency this offseason.

So, yeah, it feels good to be in this position rather than suck and no cap space available.

Yes. Cowboys have record revenues. Well more than any other NFL team.

But revenue is not CAP space.

And the Cowboys have finally learned from years of mismanagement of the CAP to sign their own first and get replacement parts in free agency.

I don't think anybody is pleased. I just think this is what we have to expect under Jerry. He makes it really tough to coach this team.

But then, I also think this team actually is pretty close right now, and getting closer. I'd like to see us be just slightly more aggressive in VFA and then keep slugging and see where we get. Upgrade where we can, sign the young players and see if we can't keep getting a little bit better. Especially since there's a bit of room yet for Dak to improve, and he's a hard working dude.

Wow! 23 years have reduced us to praising a top 6 finish in anything is amazing.

    DAL didn't learn anything

The cap has gone up over 70m in the last 6 years

DAL worst contracts were extensions.....MBIII, MAustin, Ratliff, DFree, RW31, RW11, ASpencer, Hamlin

DAL could use their cash as a weapon.... they can spend Cash over the Cap but they don't.... they are near the bottom of the league in Cash Spending, not the top

I feel that Dallas did learn from the bad contracts.
And don't spend over the CAP to get one more player.
Yes. They have CAP money now.

But that will be quickly gone with the players on the roster they must re-sign.

The drafting has been very good over the past 5 years.
    I say stay the course.j
