They arent options, they are voidable years for cap purposes. They automatically void. There is no team or player options

The Cowboys caved, and Dak Prescott obtained everything he wanted. Not only will he be getting $126 million guaranteed; he also has a no-trade clause.

The only positive concerning this trade is that we don't have to deal with the media complaining about Prescott not being paid. The Cowboys are giving Prescott way too much money, as they clearly have not learned the lesson that other teams have endured from giving third-tier quarterbacks contracts like this. Dallas can just look at the Vikings (Kirk Cousins), Ravens (Joe Flacco) and other franchises that have destroyed their roster by dedicating too many funds to non-elite quarterbacks.

And no, Prescott is not elite. The stats may say otherwise, but most of Prescott's production has come in garbage time or against bad competition. He's had no success in the playoffs, and it's not even clear if he'll be 100 percent coming off his brutal injury. The Cowboys should have continued to franchise Prescott like the Commanders once smartly did with Cousins. Instead, they're going to have to implode their roster soon, much like the Vikings have done recently because of Cousins' contract.

20 or so FAs to make decisions on besides Prescott; from what I'm reading here at Cowboys Zone and Bloggin The Boys (the other fan site I frequent)....the majority of fans want to move on most of the secondary and half the LB group.

Think those who want to move on from the linebacker group are being ignorant. Too many spots to fix to worry about that this year. We do need a starting corner and free safety, and I'd prefer not to re-sign the ones we had.

We should not expect the team to sign great free agents, though, because that's not how this team approaches free agency, whether it had signed Dak or not.

No reason for paying him this much but I think they caved to pressure and to the media and the PC culture .
Good for Dak and wish him well , but honestly he is not worth half that contract with his past performances . Heck , who knows how he will play after the injury .
The main issue is the cowboys will not be able to improve a very bad defense . They are stuck with overpaid overrated players who have star and jersey sales value only , including Dak 42 mil , DeMarcus Lawrence ($25 million), Amari Cooper ($20 million), ,Tyron Smith ($14 million) and Elliott ($13.7 million),
How can you fix the team with these figures .?
And will Dak be able to live up to such a monster contract that is awarded to super bowl MVPs and perennial winners ? How will he react when he falters and gets asked if he is worth the money ? He better win a super bowl wirh jerry otherwise Dak will be labeled as the biggest disappointment and will become a cautionary tale .

If he signed for 35 million a year (which I suppose would have been considered a bargain), the extra 7 million is the difference between the team being any good or not?

The only way to get out of paying all of it is to cut him after year 3. That makes it a 3 year 126 million dollar contract. 42 mill a year.

I'm not so sure this is accurate.
The league would not allow a contract to be created where it auto voids and allows teams to cheat the salary cap.
