Cowboys at a crossroads with Dak

Dak needs a power running game to lean on it will cover a multitude of sins
We had a classic hybrid power run attack with middle isos, whams, and various inside pulls. The issue wasn't the power. The issue was efficacy of design. The best running attacks like SF fuse the run and pass improving both. That is what we need.

I see the the Cowboys at a critical crossroads with Dak. If the Cowboys have any intention of potentially moving on from Dak, they would probably need to draft a QB in this draft class. If they get shut out there is obviously next year’s draft class, but rookie QB’s seldom have a shot at a SB.

So they will probably either extend Dak due to cap hit or draft a QB or both. This talk about extending Dak could be an attempt to add a cheap year after his playoff snafu, or to gauge what it is going to take to extend him.

I see this as a huge decision, and I hope the Cowboys don’t screw this one up.
There is no crossroads. There is no other QB that can beat out Dak. Very doubtful that a late first round pick is going to beat Dak out this year or anytime in the next 3 years.

I agree we should be drafting QB's, but its a process that needs to begin now for 3 or 4 years down the road hoping to get lucky.

Who are you drafting? This is not a great draft and more teams in front of the Cowboys need quarterbacks. If you want a premium quarterback you gonna have to pay a price to move up.
They all have no clue who they are even talking about. Many of them seem to believe that drafting one is a solution. They think if you draft a QB, he magically becomes Mahomes. I guess they have missed the last 30 years with Jerry. Hell Aikman couldnt win with this current squad. Maybe Roger?

I sure hope they don't extend his contract. I'm ready for a change and the sooner his replacement is found the better.

I have one question for all those who want to extend Dak... what good does having a 12-5 record if there's no real progress post season?

The only viable option is to do some form of a run and shoot and keep Dak out of the pocket where he is not effective.
Problem being I'm not sure hes able to run a lot. I was watching his footwork a lot the last few games and I'm convinced hes doing a lot to try and protect that ankle.
He’s not as fluid when he runs anymore. Post ankle break something has changed. He’s never been really fast but he’s lost agility or some form of lateral quickness. He ran a lot more before the ankle injury, now he passes on way too many opportunities to break the pocket when necessary.

Yep I've been studying his footwork he's trying to keep any lateral pressure off that ankle. I don’t blame him, but he will never be the same.

I really think Dak has to prove it this year or his time on this team is limited. I think he will get an upgraded WR2 and hopefully, more consistent play calling and a better run game to give him a chance. But I have lost any faith in Dak getting better at this point, I really have...Average QB play should have beat San Fran...that's all we needed...and he could not even give us that.

At this point I am already tired of all the off-season Dak talk.
Just keep building the team where it needs to be built at. Dak is here for 2023 like it or not. Probably will be here the next 2 to 4 years even.
Yes draft QB's in the meantime anyway.

RB needs to be addresses. With Zeke's slow down and lack of production, rather it is him or the scheme,OL, play calling. and Pollard's injury and unknown status especially being a FA. RB needs to be addressed.
OL, need to get better, and some better depth, as well, was the scheme part of the issue. Now we have a new OL coach to see.

WR, and depth, needs upgraded, TE, Shultz a FA, but still ned that one stud TE like a Kielce or Kittle or even Godeart.

Defense will be fine but still need a few more players to make it elite. Like best in the NFL to help the offense to be able to take over games more than they did. Use to need the offense to protect the defense as now it needs to be the opposite.

So need to focus on all of that as opposed to whining about Dak as to things we as fans can't change.

They have two years to plan on the next step. I would hope they draft a QB this year to accumulate him to the system if they decide to walk away from Dak.

If Dak played lights out and we lost, I wouldn’t hold the loss against Dak. But in this case, Dak is the reason we lost to the 9ers, the last two seasons. Dak also choked it off his rookie year. Most of the playoff losses are directly attributable to Dak.

This year definitely yes, but his rookie year? I seem to remember the defense allowing Rodgers to get a 1st down on a 3rd and 30 or something? I really don’t remember Dak’s performance that game, but I do remember the defense breaking at the end.

IMO his footspeed and lower leg power is downgraded now.

He has to work on this during the offseason. Having the best o-line in football is not guaranteed so he needs to bring an extra dimension of escapability to extend and make plays.

Right now the defences know where to find Dak. He has to change that narrative for the opposing DCs.
