Looking at it objectively includes having context or some frame of reference for comparison.

Please show me 5 teams (and their picks) who have clearly drafted better than Dallas during that same time frame.

If you can't, then recognize that we've performed at a high level in the draft recently.

I guess the obvious logical question would be

If we have drafted so well recently (and better than other teams) why can't we win playoff games and make it to the NFCCG and SB?

Could it be that (gasp) the coaching is not good?

Well, why not Equanimeous St. Brown
Cedric Wilson is not a deep threat..I'll be shocked if he breaks 4.5 in the 40 @ the combine. :(

Well, why not Equanimeous St. Brown in round 2 or 3 then? He looks like a BEAST! Like a Calvin Johnson-type threat:

In fact, should we need to move up to the high 2nd to get him, this is where our comp picks could come in handy. I rarely like trading up, but I think he's worth it.

Let's check that out to see if it's true.

2011
1(9) Tyron Smith T USC
2(40) Bruce Carter LB North Carolina
3(71) DeMarco Murray RB Oklahoma
4(110) David Arkin G Missouri St.
5(143) Josh Thomas CB Buffalo
6(176) Dwayne Harris WR East Carolina
7(220) Shaun Chapas FB Georgia
7(252) Bill Nagy G Wisconsin

Two studs in Smith and Murray and not much else. They whiffed on their 2nd round pick and on day 3 of the draft they completely struck out minus a decent return man.

-

2013
1(31) Travis Frederick C Wisconsin
2(47) Gavin Escobar TE San Diego St.
3(74) Terrance Williams WR Baylor
3(80) J.J. Wilcox S Georgia Southern
4(114) B.W. Webb CB William &Mary
5(151) Joseph Randle RB Oklahoma St.
6(185) Devonte Holloman LB South Carolina

Frederick speaks for itself. Williams is an okay 2/3 in the league. Wilcox never developed. Another whiff 2nd round pick and nothing on day 3.

-

2014
1(16) Zack Martin G Notre Dame
2(34) DeMarcus Lawrence DE Boise St.
4(119) Anthony Hitchens LB Iowa
5(146) Devin Street WR Pittsburgh
7(231) Ben Gardner DE Stanford
7(238) Will Smith LB Texas Tech
7(248) Ahmad Dixon S Baylor
7(251) Ken Bishop DT Northern Illinois
7(254) Terrance Mitchell CB Oregon

Martin's an All Pro. Lawrence has 1 great year out of 4. Hitchens is just a guy and the only other player worth anything in that group turned into a player for the Chiefs.

-

2016
1(4) Ezekiel Elliott RB Ohio St.
2(34) Jaylon Smith LB Notre Dame
3(67) Maliek Collins DT Nebraska
4(101) Charles Tapper DE Oklahoma
4(135) Rayne Prescott QB Mississippi St.
6(189) Anthony Brown CB Purdue
6(212) Kavon Frazier S Central Michigan
6(216) Darrius Jackson RB Eastern Michigan
6(217) Rico Gathers PF Baylor

Everybody's OMG epic class that took a giant step back in year 2. There's no denying Zeke. He's a generational talent. Prescott's flaws and lack of skill were exposed. Collins and Brown regressed. Smith is still in a brace and a fraction of the player he was in college. Rico's making records. Tapper's in hospice. Hey, you got a nice special teams ace and box safety in the 6th round. The reports of this class' greatness have been greatly exaggerated.

The Cowboys have drafted well lately if, and only if, you want to believe that. If you really look at it objectively it simply is not the case.

I love it the weak pop gun mimic routines I'll laugh in their face.

How do you laugh in the face of somebody holding the Lombardi from last season:huh:

Eagles won the SB and we didn't even make the playoffs..............what the hell do we have to laugh about:huh:

I suppose self deprecation. I mean, we can only laugh at this point that we still have Jason Garrett as our head coach. We can laugh at the fact that we all know what Garrett is but Jerry is too blind to notice.

Morris Claiborne trade continues to look bad. In the end, we got a very late 6th round compensatory pick for the 6th overall pick in the 2012 draft.

LOL at fans here who thought he was better than Patrick Peterson.

Heck of a draft day trade Jerry.

If that was a heck of a draft day, what is your word for the ST draft of 09? Lol

The 2009 draft is the smoking gun of evidence of how inept Jerry Jones & family are as a front office. In a colossally weak draft, they kept trading down and acquiring more picks (and teams kept letting them). Draft 101 is you trade up in (or out of) weak drafts, you trade down in strong drafts. Their whole "special teams draft" philosophy was flawed as well. They drafted and kept all season long a kickoff specialist the very year the NFL moved the kickoff five yards closer to discourage kickoff returns. Robert Brewster was an awful pick from day one. The spent a 4th round pick on a QB who was benched his senior year. They drafted a slow CB and two safeties who couldn't cover anyone.

I still shudder thinking about that draft. How talented we thought we were and the draft was just house money. The sad part was, you knew the draft was terrible. But the same few guys tried convincing others that Williams, Brewster were legit lol

We need more than that to win a Super Bowl. A new Head ball coach would help. JMHO.

Any GM who thinks they should devote an entire draft to special teams is a colossal idiot just exposing how inept they are.

It also tells me Jerry surrounds himself with yes men because there just is no way they all thought that was a good idea.

Where was common sense Stephen that year?

Really the 2009 draft was pretty much a wash out for most teams. It was just a weak draft overall. In fairness, it probably didn't matter what strategy we went with that year because the draft was just that weak.
