Never forget where you are, lol. The sky is still most certainly falling.

I don't know.

I look for us to get all of these distractions settled quickly and move on.

What we need is a fresh start..healthy players and coaches who do their position jobs.

If they wanted to do anything with Carr in particular, I think they would have done it already.

They're only going to restructure the contracts as they need the space. It takes less than a day to do it. There is a real money cost to restructure a contract because they have to shell out the cash now instead of during the season.

If the Cowboys restructure the following, they would be 21.5M under the cap:
Carr
Witten
Free
Ware
Orton

If Ware and Orton were cut the 21.5M would be reduced to about 19M.
They can gain 5.5M by making Austin a June 1st cut.

The total would be 27M under the cap.

Considering the rule of 51 and a 5% increase from the contracts for 2013 draft pick, it will require about 2M of cap space to sign all draft picks. This is usually done after June 1st.

Obviously, they wouldn't spend it all on free agents because they have to consider the future cap ramifications and the need to re-sign their own players like Dez and Tyron.

Considering that the 1st year cap hit of Carr's 50M contract was 3.2M, the Cowboys could do anything they want to do in free agency and fit it under the 2014 cap.

This would be a mistake. Best thing to do not restructure any more contracts and just cut Miles out right. Let's get more space for 2015. Next we can then clear out more space but cutting Witten, carr, free and Ware after this season.
Resign our young players, keep finding free agent bargains and draft good players.

The point is that they could do it if they want to sign free agents. The reports that the Cowboys have no cap flexibility are completely wrong.

Considering the window this team has in Romo and his age/medical condition, should this be an all in year?

Glean the best free agents you can wrangle, move in the draft, up and not down. Push all 21 mill in the middle, and then sign Waters if he'll play, as insurance, just to be sure.

While I normally operate with a healthy dose of skepticism regarding the operations of the management of this team, could they turn this around for one year and make a run?

I think so, but it would require clever shopping in FA, with restructuring to get the most dollars available. And a commitment to the draft, working it with the intent of selecting a few premium players and not this baloney of trading down because more bodies equals taking fewer but better players.

Any thoughts?

To do that, they would first have to acknowledge that Romo is old and coming off of two back surgeries. Sorry, they are not quite ready to face that reality.

And....................FYI Little Alex, I resemble that remark about being a Jerry fan from years ago.

However, I didn't see the arsewhuppin I took on a daily basis as good times.

But I am pleased if it entertained you.

They could do that, but it is uncharacteristic of Jerry Jones. Add that this team hasn't had much luck with free agency in the recent past, making them gunshy.

Yes completely agreed. They could if they wanted but it would kill our future.

If you restructure someone then that pretty much means there are here for two more years. I'm ready to move on from this core. Wish they could have won one but they didnt.

We have every option...go balls to the wall for one year...and pay the piper again next year

Kind of do nothing, keep our own, count on improvement from young guys and guys returning from injury. This also helps with cap.

Do everything to save cap space in order to turn the whole roster next year.

Each one has pluses and minuses. Seems to me they are looking at the middle one....just kind of see what happens if everyone is healthy.

A restructure as in redoing their salary doesn't really mean that at all. A restructure as in moving salary to bonus does affect the future cap.
