Cowboys cannot let these players walk out of The Star this offseason

Here we are another football season over, and the Dallas Cowboys are once again going to hit with a bunch of pending free agents that they need to make sure they resign, or at least attempt to keep in the building.

They have multiple players whose contracts are expiring. These players include defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, defensive end Chauncey Golston, and running back Rico Dowdle.

If they learned anything from last season, the Cowboys need to try and get as many of these players to stay at the Star as possible. Dan Quinn took half the roster with him and made the NFC title game, who knows what will happen if they let a few of these guys walk again.
  • Osa Odighizuwa
  • Rico Dowdle
  • Jourdan Lewis

I wouldn't blame any of them if they chose to leave because they wanted to win something more meaningful. Demarcus Ware finally got tired of Jerry's circus and it worked out fine for him.

The only reason to play in Dallas is for the money. Get on Jerry's good side and you will be showered with tons of cash and not have to do anything to get it. Look no further than Dak for a perfect example.

This is a fans take. Players and agents aren’t whiny or cry about that.

They simply go to who pays the most. In certain situations, they may take a little to stay where they are happy (Jourdan Lewis).

But they don’t cry to their agents “Get me out of Dallas because I want to win”. No. It’s get me paid.

This is why guys sign massive deals on day 1-2 to garbage teams

I really like Rico but getting a RB in the 3rd or 4th will be much less expensive.
But then we are not a good drafting team. More or less bad. So maybe we should keep what we found?!

I do think the same about Lewis. I am not so sure about Osa.

Rico can walk, I’m not paying him.

Lewis won’t break the bank.

I let Osa walk. I sign two cheaper DTs and spend the $$$ elsewhere.

Everyone is entitled to their own perceptions and opinions. I have mine, others have theirs.

If the USAToday article is true, it's another indictment on Jerry for cutting a 'cornerstone player' in order to save money. Ware was far more valuable to the organization than Dak will ever be yet he was cut and Dak got vastly overpaid.

What a brilliant FO.......

That’s comparing letting a player go to chase a ring when you’re in cap hell.

That is different then players signing here in free agency.

Lewis is the one on that list I'd want re-signed. The other 2 will probably be overpaid by someone else.

I would sign all of the above except for Dowdle. There are plenty of FA RBs available for probably less than you would have to pay Rico. AJ Dillon, Nick Chubb, Javonte Williams and Jaylen Warren come to mind. Plus, the draft is loaded with RBs.

It is always about the money. I would make Lewis and Odighizuwa priorities. I don't think they need to re-sign Dowdle. It depends on what kind of money he wants. I wouldn't pay him more than $3 million though, and I would try to get him for closer to $2 million. They need to draft a RB and there are a bunch of them in this draft.

Osa I am afraid is going to cost too much. Teams with a lot of CAP room are willing to overpay players like Osa and I can see him getting more than $20 million from one or two of them. I do not see Jerry paying Osa that kind of money.

I think Lewis will be more affordable. He wants to stay in Dallas so they have that going for them.

They have so many needs this year I don't think they can fill them all in the draft, although they have a lot of draft picks.
