Correct, but seeing the mood change on this board after the assistants were named is exactly why that is.

For me? I want to see it in ashes now. I want to see the embarrassment before the old man kicks the bucket.
you ll see that before it gets better.

These might be good hires but what fans are not taking into consideration is, are they all on the same page? Will the Jones boys allow them to achieve good things? Does each coach know JJ is Lord around here? There is a lot the common fan isnt told.

And as i have speculated, does anyone care? Fans say "the game passed the coach by" Wel ok but its passed a lot of fans by as well and todays game is NOT about the lombardi or striving to be good. So to be fair, the game has come to its true form.

I want them to bring back Osa n Chauncey and continue to build the DL, they can't let all these trench guys walk.

JLew is an important guy to re-sign. Rico can walk because drafting 2 RBs will be cheaper than re-signing Dowdle at $5M.

I really don't see a big need to keep any of them, Osama had a good year but not great and probably will not have another one like it, so pass
Lewis resign like last year, the rest are JAGs and should be replaced in draft..

Yeah I'd be shocked if he went anywhere, even if they had to franchise him
The exclusive rights franchise tag for DTs is around $22 million. The transition tag is around $19 million. I could see them using the transition tag, so they could decide whether to match any offer that he receives.

Love Nick Chubb to death but not signing him period. Would be something this team would do.
I wouldn't mind him on the right deal. You know this team is going to be cheap, but I'd rather take a shot with Chubb than spend that money on Rico. It wouldn't keep me from drafting an RB early, though.

I think Chubb will stay in Cleveland on a prove-it deal.

I don't think rico's as critical as you think, I like him and I know if he's used properly maybe we get more out of him, but look at his age and what his demands might be versus getting a player like him on a veteran minimum or you pick two players in the draft at running back and spend the money elsewhere. I mean the lack of touchdowns and breakaway you know like longer runs would concern me if this guy is asking for too big a bag..

My list is OSA, Turpin, Jlew, and Hoffman. bTW and what people might not see to be important is the new coach in Sorenson he might be in a bad spot if 75% of our special teams players that we depend on are all gone except for Aubrey I mean the whole entire operations in Goodwin, sieg, and anger all gone with Turp as well... that could hurt Aubrey ie operations of kick is important and your snapper and holder are changed out?
Since Turpin is a restricted free agent, I can't see him going anywhere unless the Joneses low-ball his tender.

Rico can walk, I’m not paying him.

Lewis won’t break the bank.

I let Osa walk. I sign two cheaper DTs and spend the $$$ elsewhere.
Where would you spend it if you’re not spending it on linemen, offensive and defensive? An improved defensive line makes each guy in the back seven better. It does not work the other way around. Same on offense. Improve the offensive line and Dak and CeeDee are more productive. Adding a better running back and great number two wide receiver does not improve the offensive line. Where, exactly, is “elsewhere”?

If a team cannot even re-sign their top performing defensive lineman they’re going backwards. Note, there is no comp pick in return if Osa signs elsewhere. “cheaper” = not very good. The Dallas Cowboys are already not very good.

LOL Stephen talks about things being tight, never mentions it's because of his awful decisions. They pay Gallup a mint, he might as well have retired the next day. Gallup cost us $9M in cap space next year. $18M for jag Terence Steele. Worst of all is the $ left over from Dak's previous contract, and $30M in old charges for all the extra money the fools gave a washed up Zack Martin.

The Cowboys need to be more aggressive in FA, but giving Osa would be just another big mistake. He's a good player, but some team is going to pay him like he's JT Watt, when he's not. A couple years from now, he'd be just another noose around our salary cap neck.

We can bash Guyton, Mazi, etc, but fact is, if guys like them don't pan out, 12-5 playoff blowout Mike McCarthy years will look like our salad days.

Cowboys cannot let these players walk out of The Star this offseason
Story by Shane Taylor, Inside The Star

Here we are another football season over, and the Dallas Cowboys are once again going to hit with a bunch of pending free agents that they need to make sure they resign, or at least attempt to keep in the building.

They have multiple players whose contracts are expiring. These players include defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa, cornerback Jourdan Lewis, defensive end Chauncey Golston, and running back Rico Dowdle.

If they learned anything from last season, the Cowboys need to try and get as many of these players to stay at the Star as possible. Dan Quinn took half the roster with him and made the NFC title game, who knows what will happen if they let a few of these guys walk again.
  • Osa Odighizuwa
  • Rico Dowdle
  • Jourdan Lewis

I am fine with letting Osa walk. I think he is overrated and only had his best season in a contract year. No thanks, let someone else pay him and get the compensatory pick.

Rico will come back on a modest deal, no one going to break the bank for him and he will be a good backup to Jeanty :)

Hopefully they can get something done with Lewis.

Osa leaves a huge void if not signed, even if we draft a DT in the 1st. I think he needs to be resigned and hopefully around 15-17m.
It would be nice.

but…

the cap is tight. 20M free.

the Parsons extension should free up 15M for 2025 though.

Restructure CDs contract. Another 15M.

that would give them 50M.

have to sign Turpin and Lance. Maybe Hoffman.

there goes 15M.

need 15M for the draft.

then keep another 20M for the 2025 season.

we are cap broke.

Lewis and Osa to Washington..
Washington has 72m and 90m contracts tied up with their starters at DT and 28 UFAs. Dropping 16-18m a year for someone who’d be the backup to Allen even if they split time would be poor management. As of now, they’re already looking at a big jump in pay that will be an overpay for Fowler and Wagner. Along with needing a massive upgrade at TE as a safety net for their toothpick of a QB!

Lance?
Why would we resign a flag football league player?

That’s the top post of this discussion.
You can’t improve by allowing talent to walk.
Draft picks are limited and hit and miss.

We can't keep everyone. I hope if we resign Osa we don't overpay like we always seem to do resigning our own talent. Osa is not even in the top 20 DT overall but he is 9th rank rushing DT. Osa is part of the reason why we suck vs the run lol. He is small to be a DT at 280lbs.

I like Jourdan Lewis toughness and coverage skills. I think him and Bland would be good in the style of defense we are about to run. I am not sure how Diggs fit. In this style of defense you need corners who want to tackle. We all know that aint Diggs. But I bet Diggs will like playing with eyes on the QB at all times.
