I am not sure but i thought they were going to keep tyler at LT,Tyron at RT and move steele inside. But hard telling with these folks
That’s another potential lineup I’ve seen listed as well. One that I feel is terrible, essentially forcing things and playing at least two guys out of position.

If what McC said is true and he’s not shining us about the run, Schoonmaker is an upgrade as a blocking TE because that was his day job at MI.

And considering Pollard and Vaughn, what’s more important? Blocking in the middle or the edge?

The East has done a damned good job of clogging up the middle of the line in run D; they are more vulnerable on the edges where Pollard and Vaughn will have to make their living.

I myself would like to see Tyler at Left Steele at right and tyron at swing but that also requires you to put an unknown at LG so I get why they would put steele inside. put your best 5 on the field. Probably dont matter anyhow because it will change as soon as Tyron goes down

I think the ‘Best 5’ lineup is Tyron-Tyler-Biadasz-Martin-Steele. That seems a no-brainer to me.

But as you said, you’d better have a good backup plan for when Tyron gets hurt again. One that doesn’t include moving Tyler Smith there and a huge drop off at left guard.

I’d like Peters back to be another option with Waletsko.

On their draft review show Youmans mentioned the Cowboys see something in Mazi's pre-snap stance that can be tweaked to improve the pass rush.

For whatever that's worth.
For someone as athletic as Mazi, he has some snaps where he's incredibly slow of the line. So hopefully they're correct in how changing his stance will improve that.

It’s much easier to find a starting quality G then DT.
Yeah, I have no problem with taking Mazi as a need for a real run stuffer has been clear for some time and Hankins is not enough and strictly a stop gap.
Sadly no one else on the roster is looking like they will really step up to true starter quality there; only backups and fill ins.

MY real problem with the draft is round 2. A blocking TE, which is CLEARLY what they wanted, could have been found later. and we could have gotten a very good guard which we will NEED once Tyron goes down and with his recent history expecting him to play 14+ games is ridiculous. PLUS we have no idea how much longer he will play. A very good guard would have at least an offseason and then part of the season to get ready to step in when the likely scenario of Tyrun going down happens.

maybe they were not another guard, or center that they had that high on their board. This might be why they didn't grab one sooner.

Oh I agree Smith is higher than Avila…

I’m just saying the fact that guys like Myles Murphy, Nolan Smith and Anton Harrison weren’t even in the discussion says they’re building their board for need and not the best players.

Murphy was 17th on the consensus big board and Mazi was 35th.
That’s not how boards work though. Cowboys had Mazi higher than Murphy. He was the 13th highest player on their board. They went BPA.

The fact Murphy wasnt in the discussion is my problem.

He was ranked like half a round higher accordingly everyone that covers the draft for a living. Not like a few spots…like 15+.

The Cowboys clearly built their board based on needs as they then turned around and took Schoonmaker in the 2nd.

This is the exact opposite of BPA.

Scheme fit is a big part of it. Also, why would you take a guy that high when you have a huge need for a comparable player at DT? I personally want no part of any more edges in that room.

That is the one thing we definitely don't need more of.

I think there’s some confusion here. Cowboys build their boards based on tape, injuries, scouting reports, interviews, etc. These “experts” that cover the draft don’t have millions invested in scouting players. They don’t do interviews. They look at tape and determine how good someone is based on their eye test.

So Mel Kiper will see a player different than a whole scouting department.

It’s why Kiper has Gibbs as a late 1st early 2nd and he goes 12 to Lions. The boards you are referencing are not going to compare to professional teams.
