With a need for defensive backs, the Cowboys made a waiver-wire claim, picking up cornerback/safety DeAngelo Willingham from Tampa Bay.

The Cowboys had some interest in Willingham entering the draft. He played safety and cornerback at Tennessee. In 26 games in two years with the Vols he had 80 tackles, three interceptions and eight pass deflections.

The roster is back at 77, leaving the Cowboys with two more roster moves to make by Tuesday.

I wouldn't get too excited about this move, this is probably a move to try to fill a spot for the minnesota game so the starters aren't forced to play alot of the game.

Saw him every day during training camp.

Nothing too exciting. Lost lots of time due to the emergence of Elbert Mack who had a really good camp. Did not get too many reps...that I know for sure.

DeAngelo Willingham, CB, Tennessee
Willingham had a solid 2008 campaign in his first full season as a starter at Tennessee. He started off especially strong at the cornerback position but got picked on by Alabama and big wideout Julio Jones. Willingham still lacks some big-game experience, but he has no time for anything more in college, as he is a senior and will have to test the NFL Draft waters in April. He played two years as a JUCO standout before transferring to Tennessee, where he took over a starting role in the secondary late in 2007. Willingham probably needs about two seasons learning on the NFL sidelines before being able to make an impact, but he definitely has a chance to do just that if he works hard as a backup. After all, Willingham has all the tools. He has good size at 6'0 and 200 pounds, and he can run around 4.4 in the 40-yard dash. A hard hitter, Willingham could make a move to safety at the next level. If he is going to stay at cornerback, he needs to improve his technique and really hone his coverage skills. At the moment he looks like a fourth or fifth-round pick, but there's a good chance he will improve his stock at the upcoming combine

Watev. This is just a preseason filler.

Maybe so. At this point and time I would say the most he will be able to do is make it to the PS.

Anyone know anything about this guy?

DB DeAngelo Willingham (5-11, 217 pounds) ran a 4.49 and 4.46 in the 40, had a 36-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 6-inch broad jump, a 4.36 short shuttle, a 6.81 three-cone drill and did 20 bench press reps. He looked sharp in the position drills and improved his draft status.

217 pounds with a 4.4? Sounds like a freak of nature!

DeAngelo Willingham

Tennessee 5'10" 210, 4.52 [40]

BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who started the past two seasons at Tennessee, totaling 42/3/4 as a senior after junior totals of 38 tackles.

POSITIVES: Athletic college cornerback with outstanding size. Fluid turning his hips to run with opponents off the line, physical, and mixes it up throughout the route. Quickly moves up the field to defend the run, and wraps up tackling. Displays good hands for the interception.

NEGATIVES: Lacks top instincts and slow locating the ball. Gives up a lot of underneath receptions. Does too much clutching and grabbing of opponents while they are in their pass routes. Does not display a great plant or break to the throw.

ANALYSIS: Willingham is a physical specimen who showed a lot of potential during his junior season, his first at Tennessee. He failed to meet expectations as a senior, yet he will be given an invite to camp this summer. Willingham possesses the size/speed numbers, and he could flourish in a zone system that has him facing the action.

PROJECTION: Free Agent
