no, it's a warm body for the minnesota game, that's it, will be cut Saturday...

Chances are you are right but I know if I was in Willingham shoe I would be busting my butt and flying down field on special teams trying to make something happen that may be his only chance to make it to the PS

DeAngelo Willingham

Tennessee 5'10" 210, 4.52 [40]

BIOGRAPHY: Junior-college transfer who started the past two seasons at Tennessee, totaling 42/3/4 as a senior after junior totals of 38 tackles.

POSITIVES: Athletic college cornerback with outstanding size. Fluid turning his hips to run with opponents off the line, physical, and mixes it up throughout the route. Quickly moves up the field to defend the run, and wraps up tackling. Displays good hands for the interception.

NEGATIVES: Lacks top instincts and slow locating the ball. Gives up a lot of underneath receptions. Does too much clutching and grabbing of opponents while they are in their pass routes. Does not display a great plant or break to the throw.

ANALYSIS: Willingham is a physical specimen who showed a lot of potential during his junior season, his first at Tennessee. He failed to meet expectations as a senior, yet he will be given an invite to camp this summer. Willingham possesses the size/speed numbers, and he could flourish in a zone system that has him facing the action.

PROJECTION: Free Agent

Sounds like a perfect fit for us :laugh2:

Willingham is a FS. He lacks the instincts to play corner, especially at the NFL level.

I am pretty sure he was Julio Jones' ***** last season. Gave up a hundred yards.

This was one of my guys. I wanted the Cowboys to draft him.

He's big and physical and can run. He can tackle. He'll hit you and will catch the ball.

He's a CB/S hybrid.

Had a real good junior year.

Many teams view him as a safety.

He came on late and got a lot of buzz.

The Bucs must have cut him.

I think he ran a 4.46, but I'd have to go back and make sure.

This guy has potential. He's a good football player.

He could challenge DeAngelo Smith down the road.

He can't be worse than anyone on our cover units.

I know you like your secondary players 41gy, but I think the only thing that he and Smith have in common is their first name. Smith may not have Willingham's size, or even speed, but he has ball awareness, plus hands for the INT.

I just don't think Willingham fits the Cowboys current secondary profile, speed, physicality AND hands for the INT. He does offer versatility (another Cowboys' preference), so you never know.

I don't know, Bat.

He's big and fast. He didn't drop the ball at Tennessee when he had his chances. He forced a huge fumble, in the South Carolina Game, in 2007. (He's physical, especially against the run.) Eric Berry picked it up and ran off with it. He will hit you, and he can run.

His best position is either S or cover 2 CB, imo.

I don't recall him losing the ball. I recall him playing very well his junior year. You are right. Julio Jones got him good. He didn't play bad his senior year, either. His junior year was better, though.

The main thing with him was that he played off too far at times. (See the end of the Auburn game)

Nevertheless, it should be easier finding the ball at safety. I think that's his best NFL spot.

From what I've read, he was the guy that all the WRs toasted in camp.

to be fair, Mike Mickens was toast in camp too
and to be honest, I think this move shows that DeAngelo Smith is not impressing the Cowboys at all

Alright. Willingham force 2 fumbles in that game. He recovered the one I thought Berry ran back. Berry's run so many back, I got confused. lol

I've got a nice little video of him. I'll get the link. He has two really nice picks out of the three. He forces several fumbles in the open field.

Ya'll want turnovers. This guy can force some fumbles and has good hands.

Yeah, us and the pathetic, desperate New England Patriots.

Cowboys beat Pats to DeAngelo Willingham

Posted by Mike Florio on August 31, 2009 7:08 PM ET
Lost in a day involving a flurry of cuts and waivers and other roster moves is that the Patriots tried unsuccessfully to get their hands on defensive back DeAngelo Willingham.

Per a league source, the Patriots made a waiver claim for Willingham, who was dumped recently by the Bucs.

But the Cowboys made a claim, too.

And since they had priority, the Cowboys got him, as previously reported by Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.

Willingham, who played college football at Tennessee, had been signed by the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
