Cowboys closing on deal with Cooper Kupp

Didn't he start later in the season along side the Red rifle? As to where Sanders was lining up alongside Bryce who at the time was leading the all time worst offense.
Not really. Sanders didn't start at all. Bryce got benched week 3, and got his job back by week 8. In the weeks Dalton started Sanders only got 7,6,2,3, and 3 carries. The issue with Sanders is that he wasnt even good enough to get significant carries on a bad Carolina team.

They can take the rumored $6 million they offered him. Add it to the $9 million credit they just received. BOOM. signed for basically the $6 million budgeted.
Fans happy, team happy.

Unless he is demanding a multi year contract I'm not sure why the Cowboys would have an issue paying him into the teens this year. They have plenty of cap space and not many options left to spend it. Are they counting on needing $30M in carryover for next year? I'm actually shocked the fan base is so worried about an overpay for Kupp. I'd rather them overpay (on a 1 year deal) than just not spend any money once again.

Not to mention they can still gain cap room several ways....Parsons extension, Steele restructure, etc. The cap is pretty much a non factor this year for Dallas in terms of short contracts. I'm not sure why fans are so concerned about overpaying this dude.

I just saw this headline and went right to the last page because I knew it was too good to be true. The Cowboys and the media both like to play Lucy pulling the football from Charlie Brown. I refuse to buy in to any rumors about the Cowboys. They're false 99% of the time.
Most teams are a distant third in these rumors.

Agents leak 99% of these rumors straight to the media.

The media needs clicks and “engagement” for their “content creators”.

They are basically influencers who get paid to post rumors and the occasional news, most of which they just scavenge from each other and regurgitate.

Teams will leak an occasional story such but it’s not going to be “we are trying to sign so and so”.

Offer him $6 to $7 million and allow him to earn up to $13 via incentives.

Make Kupp bet on himself. If he's not willing to do that, pass. Draft a WR either way.
He’s asking for 14. No player anywhere, who thinks they are worth 14, is going to take half that unless they have zero options and then, it’s their agent who has failed by not getting more competition at a better number.

Exactly. Even after the seven signings/trade pickups Dallas still has around $30 million of room, give or take. Unless they are planning on signing seven more $3 million-for-one-year players, why not just spend it on Kupp? He will be off the books in 2026, which would make Stephen happy.

yeah, just saw a post where we are top 5 in spending for the WR room currently. So, looks like the draft is where we will focus on a WR to add.

At least we know a Super Bowl winner thinks it's important enough to spend money on.

Like I've been saying, don't risk flopping on Kupp when there's a few who can start for you as rookies.

Most likely. I'm not getting my hopes up. I want to see change, but after 13 years of the same free agent game plan, I see no reason to believe it. It isn't like we haven't been linked by media to expensive FAs before.
Yup my point- always the fat bridesmaid, never the bride.

sure thing... just pass on him and draft a guy.... like they drafted Tolbert? There were 7 WRs drafted in the 1st rd. MAYBE 2 had a season that would be what we need from a guy this year.

So drafting a guy might be good 2-3 years down the road, but this upcoming season.... not so much.

So you just wanna overpay him because he asks you to?
Cowboys , if they are smart, are getting our #2 WR at the top of the draft. I would be smart about signing a 32 year fa wr
Before we sign him, I would let him know that we have every intention of drafting a wide receiver high if one is there.

So I followed him a bit last year. He started off with a bang and then got hurt, came back and fell off the map.

People were saying he was slow coming in and out of breaks, that he had lost a step. Maybe father time caught up, but Stafford had a history of hyper targeting Kupp and he basically ignored him the last month of the season.

Maybe he needed to heal further, maybe he got old. He wasn't ever fast to begin with.

I dont think hes worth what he is demanding and theres a strong chance he's a complete bust this year. I'd pay him 6-9ish and go from there. If they agree to more I won't be upset either.

Yeah I couldn't care less about how profitable Jerry/Stephen are this year. I care infinitely more about the quality of football team the provide. At some point they are going to need to be willing to throw an extra $3-4M than they would like to at a player in free agency instead of only going after the bottom of the barrell.
