Mavs Trade Luka to Lakers

KD doesn't have the Mavs on his list.
And Kyrie won't be ready to start the year.
So that all feels very unlikely but I do think he intended that at the time of the trade.
The Mavs are screwed. AD could easily demand a trade since he had no say joining this train wreck. Kyrie is up for another max extension after next year when he'll be staring 35 in the face. Nobody is coming here to save Nico.

I don't care what Silver says. The ONLY thing that makes sense is that the new owners are sabotaging this team in hopes of running off the fanbase so they can eventually justify moving it to Vegas. They trade away a generational talent in his prime that the fan base loves on the premise they want to play more D. But Kyrie is the one of the worst off ball defenders in the league and they were were planning on building around him? makes no sense. They run off Dirk Nowitski who's the team GOAT. Nico continues to inflame the fanbase holding unnecessary pressers about the trade. Ownership has gotta be paying him tons of cash to torpedo this team and his career.

The alternative is that Nico is actually this dumb.

In short, yes.

I was initially of belief it was ownership but now I am in the it was all Nico camp.
Ownership is losing TONS of money and while they definitely want to own a franchise in Vegas that seems a "years away" prospect if it were to occur at all.
The easiest way to get a Vegas franchise would have been to simply buy an expansion one.
DFW is too big a market for the NBA to lose it entirely.

But how? Nobody is this dumb let alone a guy who rose to be a GM. Ownership had to approve this trade.

I think the proof will be in how ownership handles him this offseason. If they fire him, then it's bc he owns the trade error. If they keep him, then they are a part of it.

Nico was furious with how Luka handled off-seasons and rehab. He wanted him in top shape and responding at each Nico call. Luka had a team to deal with Nico.
So, he began separating all the people who were close to Luka and "coddling" him.
The Finals run made it worse because Nico met the team in exit interviews and told everyone they EACH needed to get 15% better.
Players laughed at that because this was a team that was picked 6th or 7th in the West and had just made a crazy run to the Finals.
They were all exhausted but had accomplished a lot.

But yes, Dumont is already leaking that he got fooled by Nico.
I expect the axe to fall.
I am sure lots of conversations about what to do when you fire him. You need an interim GM and do you keep the Team President who give that role to Cuban who is clearly angling for it.

Not sure if this NBA account is legit. I think it's a parody account.

Kyrie and Luka defense was a problem together. Kyrie by himself is easier to mask. Lakers are having the same issue now trying to hide both Reeves and Luka and Rui was getting worked last game.

AD demanding a trade wouldn’t be the worst thing if they do it right but you have to wonder what the compensation will even be. These guys might get Bradley Beal and a 1st for him smh.

I am glad Cubans relegated to shark tank . The new owners simply didn’t want to pay Doncic it’s dollars and cents and the GM’s marching orders were to get rid of him .
I don’t even get that stance though. If they don’t want to pay Luka who do you want to pay? Because you have to pay it. It’s not like you don’t pay it and you have free money. That money will just go to AD and whoever else. Doesn’t make sense. Unless they think Luka will be out the lathe which I don’t see.

AD will never get re signed in Dallas no way . And Kyrie I has one foot out the door as well . Clean house start over seems to be the direction .

What I’m saying is that money is spent. There’s a dose cap. You don’t want to give Luka 60 million but you will be giving 60 million to someone. So the whole “they don’t want to pay him” doesn’t make sense.

So, the new owners didn't want one of the top 3 players in the NBA in his prime that just lead the team to the NBA Finals? That makes no sense and the lopsided trade makes even less sense. If you don't want to max sign him, then fine go get a bounty on the open market for the guy. Instead, it was done in a clandestine manner all hush hush to his buddy in LA at bargain basement discount. It reeks of either total incompetence or mental illness.

All indications are that this was all Nico and he sold his nonsense "defense wins championships" vision to the newbie owners. Great players win championships in the NBA.

Well if what you are saying is true and get he sent him to LA then it’s not incompetence or mental illness it was calculated and genius lol. If that’s true.

I believe the call came from ownership. I don’t believe Nico had this much say. He’s the henchman.

This is what everyone thinks before they pay attention and study what these folks actually say.

Nico made this trade but with approval from Dumont.
No owners wants lose 100's of millions of dollars.
This isn't a tank roster!. And they have no picks for which is rebuild in Vegas if they do move.
So, no, this is not some owner master class in getting a team moved.

Nico didn't want Luka to be his boss is basically what it came down to.

Many fans were sick of Cuban. But he was also the only adult in the room at times and especially once they handed the keys to Nico and surrounded him with only business guys.

Luka puts up 1/3 of Lakers points in a playoff win where they hold Minny to 85 points.... (Defense wins Championships)
Luka looks sharper than even last year. Perhaps he knew what he was doing slowing himself into the season and taking the rest afforded by injury.....

I think it pretty clear Nico wanted to undercut Luka before he got undercut himself.
He and Luka were at odds, and the superstar player wins 99% of the time.

Another run to the WC Finals and they offer Luka the early Supermax, and he says only if you fire Nico.

Nico acted in self-preservation here.
