That simply can't be long-time Cowboys fans that know football. Zeke was great at one time but doesn't have the tread left to be an important part of a successful running game.
At this point I don’t think Zeke’s issue is even physical tread issue. He’s supposedly is and looks to be in the best shape of his career every year a continues to decline. To me it more a mental processing issue. From, eyes, to brain, to reaction is a tick off. Accumulation of hits to the head from his style of running!

I agree and please know, I was a big fan. But the hits he took for years have taken a toll. I'd love for him to have a great, 1,000 yard season, but I just don't think that's realistic.

Yeah, it took me a bit to come to terms but 2022 season was undeniable. He just doesn’t have the reaction time to hit the hole when he sees it before it closes!

Because the wide receiver by committee approach in 2018 worked out so well didn't it, dummies never learn
What do you want them to do? There were way too many holes on the team to be fixed/replaced during the draft but not enough picks. Plus, the RB they wanted (Brooks) was taken early in the 2nd round, way before the Cowboys 56th pick. Had the Cowboys used their 1st round pick on RB Jonathon Brooks instead of on OT Tyler Guyton, you guys would have thrown a major tantrum.

Bottom line, bringing Zeke back on a 1 year deal to help the current RB crew be a run-by-committee group this year of 2024 will have to do for now. It also doesn't mean another veteran RB can't be brought in once teams are forced to cut down to 53 players before the regular season starts. This year's current moves pretty much guarantees next year's draft 1st round pick will likely be on a stud young RB.

Well according to some, any scrub can run behind our line. I guess we'll find out. Chances are it will be a big fail and next year Jerry will overcompensate by drafting a RB high just like he did Zeke. The Cowboy's never learn.

I'm probably going to record the games, and watch them when it's convenient. I'm no longer scheduling ANYTHING around Cowboys games. If I catch wind that we lost beforehand, I'm not even going to waste my time.
I‘m thinking hard about not spending 200 bucks again for the league pass next season as long as they don‘t prove in the first couple of games that it’d be money well spent.

Whatever side of the fence you sit on with Dak…or Lance…this experiment is doing them no favors because they will get teed off on with no run game and Jerry and Stephen will act like they never saw it coming.
No need to mention Lance. He won't ever start, plus he will be gone after this season since the Cowboys already said they will not pick up his $23 million (2025) 5th year rookie contract option. Lance is not going to stick around to remain a backup, much less to get paid backup QB pay. He's going to be gone after this year.

Zeke probably won’t carry the mail - just special delivery… I think short yardage specialist.

Jerry said last week how he really watched Zeke play at the end of last year. Jerry says there was no doubt in his mind that Zeke would be a RB1 in 2024.

Jerry knows how to scout 'em and coach 'em up.
I read the E said he is here to compete for the starting job, so looks like he will be starter, and get most of the carries.
Jerry loves him. He didnt want some new guy he doesnt know or like lol.

Thats the problem when the 2 guys in charge, are just fans playing at the job they are supposed to do.
Other teams have professionals, we have the jones boys who are just fans.

Jerry sees what he wants to see, and he sees E as still that guy in 2016.

Anyone remember the WRBC they tried that one time with little to no talent? They needed better players then and they need better players now for this to work. Also coaching has to change the philosophy completely in scheming for them all to play a role in. I don't see them having the intelligence to pull it off.

Well....I'm not sure what to say. No one expected to hear Zeke will be the starting lead back but here we are (LO). This is McClay speaking, not Jerry or Stephen.

Cowboys confident Ezekiel Elliott can lead a running back-by-committee backfield

Published May 1, 2024 05:14 PM

The Cowboys do not have an RB1 on their roster and might not when the season starts. Ezekiel Elliott is the starter by default after signing a one-year deal Tuesday.

The Cowboys did not draft a running back with any of their eight picks despite a stated interest in the top player at the position, Texas’ Jonathon Brooks. They didn’t reach for one after 15 running backs went between the Cowboys’ 87th overall pick and their next one at 174.

The team knew it had Elliott as a fallback after the sides met the night before the draft.

So, Elliott joins Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn and Royce Freeman in what looks like a running back by committee.

Elliott’s touches and yards have declined every season from the previous season over the past five seasons. He had only 235 touches in 2023 when he started five games for the Patriots.

“Zeke is a winning, starting running back in the league,” Will McClay, the Cowboys vice president of player personnel, told Joseph Hoyt of lonestarlive.com on Wednesday. “So, you turn on the tape. You saw him do things, running power gap schemes, running inside and outside zone, helping in pass protection – all those things to show that the ability was still there. Adding him to this roster, it adds a guy that, No. 1, loves football; that wants to win here; that wants to be here; and that adds something to the roster from a leadership standpoint, as well as an ability to play.
I absolutely expected to hear it. He's our highest-paid back and the only one who has proven he can start in this league.
