Cowboys could wait to sign Atogwe

Do the Cowboys wait until June 1 to sign Atogwe when he's an unrestricted free agent? Otherwise, if they sign him to an offer sheet now, the Rams might just match it and the Cowboys are left with nothing.

Rams FS O.J. Atogwe will reach unrestricted free agency on June 1 if the team does not sign him to a long-term deal, guarantee a 2010 contract of $7 million, or trade his rights.

The predicament has to do with Atogwe's right of first refusal tender. Currently a restricted free agent, Atogwe can be signed to an offer sheet until April 15. If he fails to draw an offer, Atogwe can force the Rams' hand on the $7 million guaranteed, knowing that the team will lose his rights by June.

That's fine, but just remember he is a very solid player on a terrible defense. If you put him on a defense that's close to being elite, the sky is the limit for him; or he could be special.

I don't think it is hyperbole at all to say that Peyton Manning is 4 times as good as Sorgi. And I know Romo is 4 times as good as Jake Delhomme.

I sure there are many LBs out there 4 times better than Bobby Carpenter.

lol..not so sure thats true. Might be exaggerating a little but he's definitely a huge upgrade. And I'd say Ed Reed is 4 X better then Hamlin, examples exist.

what we need is someone who creates turnovers at safety. Only Reed has caused more turnovers the last couple seasons then Atogwe. On this defense I think he can be special. His age is the only problem.
