you do realize they will spend every penny of this right? Its not like they are "saving" the dollars, it will either be used this year or rolled into next year.
Money spent today can not collect interest. Money spent next year, can collect interest.

Is Jerry that cheap?

Keep telling yourself that
You literally have no clue how the salary cap works do you? Teams spend or roll over all of their cap dollars, esp those with 60 million qbs.

Stop with the dumb commentary

I'm trying to get a handle on this whole cap thing, but I'm no expert. Looking a little deeper, it's showing that if we cut him post June 1st next season, we essentially break even, no hit or savings, but $89.9m dead money. If he's let go post June 1st in 26, we're left with $27.7m dead money and save $40m. More or less, what I'm gathering is if we take the hit next season, $89.9m cap number, carry $22m forward from this year, we're looking at eating around $68m, and then we can get out of his contract in 26 without destroying the cap moving forward. In that case, there is some logic behind not spending that cash. Sound about right?

According to this, we wouldn't save any money by post June 1 cutting him in 2025. However, 2026 looks to be a year we get about $40 mil, but we'd eat about $27 mil. The following year, 2027, we'd get about $45 mil (obviously, assuming we don't restructure) and only eat $16 mil. That's why I think it makes sense to try to get as many firsts as we can, get Jeanty, and try to position for Manning around 2026. Then, let him sit a year and let him take over the next year or whenever we are ready.

Same here. I was fine with the previous signing of Dak because I was hoping we'd be able to build our team properly. We have a second chance at it now. The last thing we want is to set up Dak's successor with a disaster of a team. If we can use Dak's next 2-4 years to build the team properly, then it makes Dak's contract worth it to me.

CeeDee should be here for the rookie replacement. If we keep Parsons, we should be building our defence around him. If we trade him, then we should have a lot of picks to rebuild our defence. All in all, by letting Manning sit for 2026 while he learns under Dak, we probably would have a solid team that year, AND we should have, by that time, a better oline, better running game with Jeanty. All in all, we'd have a team that should be able to win, and we'd have been setting him up for success.

In my opinion, part of the reason I think the Chiefs became what they are is because they didn't let Mahomes start straight away. They let Alex Smith play about a year to let Mahomes learn and develop, while they put the finishing touches on completing the roster. We should be doing the same between now and 2027. Between now and 2026, we should be preparing the roster for a rookie like Archie Manning Jr. Then, come time for Manning to join the team, we should have the team ready for him to start after a year of learning.

Say what you will, but Dak is still a very good QB. A QB like Manning can learn a great deal from Dak for a year. The skills he'd learn in preseason and training camp from Dak would be invaluable. I think this is the best way to be able to win a Super Bowl as quickly as possible. By virtue of the 2027 1 June cut and having a rookie QB, we should be able to sign some really good FAs to build what's left and probably extend CeeDee if needed.

You are completely overlooking money needed to sign own FA's and Parsons.

The Cowboys don't have $22M in salary cap to spend.

Well, maybe there are free agents of ours we can trade to get a head start on. If we lose to San Francisco, I think we are likely to end up missing the playoffs. So, why not try to collect draft picks? That's how we acquire most of our talent anyway.

I’ve wanted DaQuon Jones for what seems like the past 5 seasons and each time they pass on him. Our FO is just focused on what they like…..
Around here, if you want em, your never gonna get em.

The NFL has rules where it forces you to spend X amount of Cap Dollars over time. You can not keep carrying money over. There is no savings. They money has to be spent.
Don't waste your time, some people just can't be helped

I am of a similar mind set...if we start to go down that rabbit hole and are staring 3-6 in the face, we should trade as many as we can and committ to the rebuild.

However let's say we beat SF and somehow beat ATL, and the team starts to play better, you have to ride the wave of the season and see where it goes.

Big inflection point Sunday night my friend, saddle up!

Not saying I agree with the idea, but i am pretty sure the plan is to carry over the $22 million to help offset Martin most likely retiring next year and Dlaw's contract, plus other dead money.

They can always convert the base salaries for Dak and Lamb into signing bonuses and free up a ton of cap space.

I think Parsons currently has a base of $21 or $22 million next year as well.

Who would we trade exactly? Lamb and Dak can't be traded (cap hit/contract). Martin will retire. Dlaw is probably done. That leaves Parsons, Tyler Smith, maybe Diggs.

The Cowboys don't have $22M in salary cap to spend.
Micah already counts $21+M on next year's Cap (Dallas has $28M+ in Cap Space next year before making any moves). So, THIS YEAR, Dallas still has that $$$ to spend if they chose to do so. If they decide to roll it over, then they will easily have around $45M to spend in FA before any restructures/extensions are done. So, they have $$$. I've seen teams with less do WAY MORE than Dallas does.
