With that knowledge, the team that swears they can't afford good players could've had the following combo of players (per their Cap Hits for 2024):
  • Derrick Henry - $5,105,000
  • Nnamdi Madubuike (DT) - $7,100,000
  • Tyron Smith - $2,900,000 (even if he's NOT an All-Pro anymore, they could've let Guyton learn from him OR had Guyton play RT)
  • DaQuon Jones (NT) - $2,868,000
4 good to great players (when healthy). 2 DT's that ABSOLUTELY would've helped the DT room. And STILL have over $4M left. Had they just signed Dak and CeeDee BEFORE Free Agency (because they KNEW they were gonna cave and give them what they wanted LONG BEFORE the deals were done). But, they don't have the $$$...

I think the title should be carryover space.

Yup, could've had those and possibly had a chance at a run. Oh well, hope we have a lot of cap space next season.

Cowboys cap space = $22 million. Unfortunately, GM and son’s “head space” = 0

I'm pretty certain that they intend to use that money to counteract Dak's MASSIVE cap hit next season. His cap hit per OTC for 2025 is currently just short of $90m. They could restructure and send some of that cash into later void years, but there's a catch. We can get out of his contract in 2026, saving roughly $6m towards the cap, but that goes away if we restructure and push the money forward. It's like a failsafe put in place if Dak doesn't live up to his contract in the next season and a half(ish)

I don't agree with the logic. If you say "all in", it implies that you're ready to use any and all resources available to win right now. That $22m would've gone a long way towards building a legitimate contender with guys like Micah, Bland, and Smith still in their rookies contacts. Add in Derrick Henry, a decent OL or two, and a solid DT and this team is looking pretty good...... but then again, I never wanted to resign Dak at $60m/year in the first place. The Jones boys really screwed this one up in the worst way.

Not to mention that his current cap hit for a June 1 cut in 2027 is nearly $45 mil.

What I don’t understand is the idea of carrying over that type of cap money, but at the same time lowering the overall cap charge for this year on Dak and Lamb and adding void years.

They have done this in the past…..restructure deals to create cap space that’s rolled into next year.

If you’re doing so in order to try to add more players to win now, I get it, but what’s the point of this approach?

Not being critical, looking for an answer from someone who can make sense of it because I cannot.

Jerry is trying to win SB's from the grave.

He does not want Stephen to get any future credit without him.

I'm trying to get a handle on this whole cap thing, but I'm no expert. Looking a little deeper, it's showing that if we cut him post June 1st next season, we essentially break even, no hit or savings, but $89.9m dead money. If he's let go post June 1st in 26, we're left with $27.7m dead money and save $40m. More or less, what I'm gathering is if we take the hit next season, $89.9m cap number, carry $22m forward from this year, we're looking at eating around $68m, and then we can get out of his contract in 26 without destroying the cap moving forward. In that case, there is some logic behind not spending that cash. Sound about right?

This is what happens when you can always think about next year and not necessarily be “all in” this season. Moves and restructures can always be made next year.

The fact this delirious duo know their place is secure, what’s the urgency all about? Just plain idiots, no other way to put it.

That money is badly needed to give to Parsons at the last possible second next year, thus missing the free agency window to improve the team.

It gives you the flexibility just in case. The odds of the cowboys using that money is slim but it’s there just in case they were 5-1 right now instead of 3-3 and wanted to go get a Myles Garrett type to put them over the top.

It really doesn’t matter for the cowboys situation but technically it’s the right way to do it.

Maybe it is an interest free loan for the penny pinching Jones'.

you do realize they will spend every penny of this right? Its not like they are "saving" the dollars, it will either be used this year or rolled into next year.
Keep telling yourself that
