RELEASED Cowboys cut WR Traeshon Holden (for Von Miller)

Schramm/Landry started the 88 tradition. They originally gave 1986 #1 Mike Sherrard 88 but he didn't want the pressure and switched to 86. They then drafted Irvin #1 in 1988 and gave him the number. So Jerry just kept the tradition that was already started.
You are correct. I do think the fact that what numbers WRs could wear was limited impacted that decision. You really couldn't afford to retire numbers. Can't remember when they opened the teens to receivers. It think they had the 20s and 80s to work with before then, and the 20s were shared with DBs and RBs and 80s with TEs.

when you are on the edge, you can't afford to make any mistakes. He made two in one game; and one was really bad. So bye bye

I felt bad for the kid, but as someone else mentioned, it was a Jimmy Johnson type move. Overall it is a good message to the team that there is a new sheriff in town and his name is Shotty.

I agree with this, and it is the type of move Jimmy would make, making an example of a player who didn't really have much of a chance of making the team anyway. You made a stupid mistake, now you're cut. Anyone else want to make a stupid mistake?

Leon Lett had some skins on the wall . You got to be selective who you buy a bus ticket for while still sending a message

[Looking at you, Dak Prescott]

No, Jerry should lean on Pickens to take 80 so we can have Tony Hill-Drew Pearson all over again. Hopefully, Jerry went to school with someone named Pickens who wore #80 and then it's a done deal.
Maybe it's corny but I like the Dak-to-Pickens touchdown pass being 4 + 3 = 7.

But I like the Hill-Pearson dynamic too.

The fact he almost muffled it on the first attempt, and then muffled it on the second attempt is what cost him.
