we have a boat load of our own veterans and current players to sign as well.

Dez and RoMc top priority
Leary is RFA
Murray will test the waters.

We'll save some money cutting Carr.

We have FA's leaving and some of them can go elsewhere.

Adding the players I wanted on top of drafting players on defense is a realistic shot at getting younger on the defensive line.

This fan will be paying special attention to the defensive line, tonight. It should be a fair indicator at just how far things project towards change next season.

I don't think this has been mentioned on the boards, but I think it was Mike Fisher that mentioned something on the FAN that RoMac is just looking for a big pay day. I still don't think I'd trust him with a big contract. Maybe something with a bunch of incentives.

For sure, ignore the current body of work...and believe his return means nothing.

Greg Hardy
Cliff Avril
Pat Williams
Charles Tillman

and these are our own FA/RFA

Doug Free
- Dez Bryant
- Demarco Murray
- Jeremy Parnell
- Bruce Carter
- Justin Durant
- Anthony Spencer
- George Selvie
- Nick Hayden
- sterling Moore
- Cole Beasley
- Dwyane Harris
- Lance Dunbar
- Ronaldo McClain
- Ron Leary
- Josh Brent
- Tyler Clutts
- Lance Dunbar
- Chris Jones

hardy, avril, dez, RoMcclain are not going to be cheap.

we are over the cap already. losing all those players that are on the current roster, means that we have to fill those positions, even if its for minimum salary. going after FAs is not cheap, specially if you are already over the cap, which will result in pushing more money to the future and extending contracts for romo, witten, etc.

and if we do that, then people scream why did we do that when future comes.....

How many unrestricted free agents do you want to keep?

Dez Bryant is a given, long term deal or the Franchise tag.

Rolando McClain, provided it doesn't take crazy money.

Doug Free, if he's reasonable, or Jermey Parnell.

Dwayne Harris, for the right price, but he may want to go elsewhere for more snaps at WR.

Anyone else can come back on minimum deals or they can walk.

Lol we have a lot more then you named.

Hmmm, not sure I get the point here Yoda.

Rolando McClain has performed consistently at a strong level of play for this entire season. As to his own motivations, he joined the Cowboys from retirement and overcame a long lapse of inactivity to become a Dallas player.

We aren't over the cap right now. I know we're at a surplus.

Leary is locked in as a RFA

Not everyone will be retained and outside of Dez and McClain no other player will break the bank to retain if that is the case.

Yes, I've heard those claims. Mike Fisher has been trying to cause a stir with regards to R. McClain ever since he got here. Normally Fisher is a reasonable reporter, but he's seems to have an ax to grind in regards to McClain.

McClain might be focused on big contract or he might not, but the story has no meaning to me at this point. Most players are going to try to get their market value. It's not like Ware or Romo or anybody really gave the Cowboys a hometown discount.

Giving McClain a big contract would be a risk but we have no idea what it will take to sign him or what other teams would offer him. If he wants too much then I'm sure there are other free agent LBs.

Murray could change things if he is anywhere around 1900 yards at regular season's end.

Yes, and he's also done the same in the past, only to retire not once, but twice. I wouldn't throw big bucks his way next year, not unless he's signs a contract that requires him to earn them.

I sure would be rooting long termed in his corner if he came aboard next season...and was reasonable as well.

Yes, but most players don't retire every other year. No doubt he's play very well for us, when healthy. I just wouldn't trust him with a big contract.

That high tide mark would put him only behind Tony Dorsett and by a small margin. And Tony got paid very well back then.

Yup and he's going to get paid. Can't blame him for wanting more $.

Where did you get the idea that they are currently over the cap? They get an extra 9M from the current projections if they don't pick up Melton's 9M option for 2015. They will have 25M in cap space if they don't keep Melton, Free and Carr. If they restructure 7 contracts that total goes to 50M of cap space and that's simple restructures without adding years to contracts that would further lower the 2015 cap hit.

Only 1 of these will be re-signed. Parnell can get a starting job and doesn't need to sign to be a backup again:
Doug Free
Jeremy Parnell

Hopefully these player are replaced:
- Bruce Carter
- Nick Hayden
- George Selvie
- Anthony Spencer

Only if they are very cheap:
- Justin Durant
- Tyler Clutts

Probably Restricted:
- Sterling Moore
- Cole Beasley
- Lance Dunbar
- Ron Leary
- Lance Dunbar
- Chris Jones

Already signed for 2015:
- Josh Brent

That leaves these players:
- Dez Bryant: Franchise if needed
- Demarco Murray: Probably not huge money if he is re-signed. Probably 5M per max.
- Ronaldo McClain: Probably not going to give him a mega-contract regardless of cap space. Risk of quitting is too high.
- Dwyane Harris: Maybe 2M per.

I don't know why the salary cap causes people to say the dumbest things. I guess it's like Claiborne freaking out about the Wonderlic test.

I know. It's not impossible to replace some of the guys that are on our FA list.
