The d is better than people think. It just has to generate turnovers if Dallas is going to have a chance.

All this crying about the pass rush and missing players.

2015 defensive rankings

New York Giants 32
Philadelphia Eagles 30
Washington Commanders 28

Dallas Cowboys 17 with no QB support.

Don't believe the hype.

Which of those teams went to the Super Bowl last year? Oh, that's right, none of them.

Being middle-of-the-pack on defense is only going to get us there if the offense is flawless, and then we still might not make it. If we can't put pressure on the passer, then we're going to suffer through more games where the last team to have the ball wins. Romo has had to put up with that way too much in his standout career.

Not sure what the point of this post is. None of our East rivals are considered legit SB teams. So throwing up our very mediocre ranking against theirs doesn't make much sense to me.

And for the record, I suspect the Eagles defense might end up being the best of the bunch. Certainly not great, but likely the best looking dog in a group of mutts.

It's a yards based stat which is crap.

How did we do in points allowed and take aways? I don't know what it was but i'm guessing it's not that good.

Takeaways should improve if we put more points on the board and force teams not to play checkdown football against us.

I would love to see our DB's break on a pass and pick it off every now and then.

The PPG was pretty solid though.

Basically better QB play and more takeaways should lead to a big season from Dallas.

The PPG was pretty solid though.

I've heard people explain this away by stating that our opponents were running the ball with a lead and that is why PPG is so low. However, the Cowboys lead or were tied in the 4th quarter in 11 games this past season. I think with a little more offensive juice, our team could have been vying for a playoff spot even without Romo.

This secondary is not the same it is better. Did you forget Scandrick missed all of last season? And Jones was jumping from corner to safety every other week? And the light seems to have gone off for Claiborne. Our lb corps is the same as a non dependable McClain is equal to Durant. DL simply through health got better plus we signed players (Crawford can use both arms now) David Irving 2nd year in system Hayden gone for Thornton. Our depth is much better. So if you didn't see improvement it's because you weren't trying.

Yeah I can live with our PPG's.

If Romo can stay healthy and we can boost our takeaway stats then that would be huge. The takeaways will improve if we put more pressure on the QB's and get a little more lucky with fumbles.

With David Irving getting another TC under his belt, Crawford back to 100%, Thornton, Terell McClain, Scandrick, and Jones at Safety I'm not worried at all.

David Irvin? Is that a joke? Crawford is already hurt again and not practicing. Scandric and Jones are potential things to be positive about. Claiborne as well. Other than that, the defense looks completely aweful.

Secondary is agreed. LB and DL are 100% worse and its not even close.

The problem with the defense was not that it's a disaster. The problem is that it's weak enough that when we're playing playoff caliber teams it's a liability that puts too much pressure on Romo and the offense to win consistently.

That, and last year's abysmal takeaway count when we needed somebody to step up and help the backup QBs.

It's the easiest way to address and improve the team, and we keep neglecting it in favor of long shots and running backs.

The critical stat that Percy always points to that correlates to wins/loses more than any other is Defensive Passer Rating and again last year it didn't lie.
