They didnt
They did compliment Duggar but I never heard them say they were taking a QB
I’m sure if the right guy was there at the right time they would have
Honestly this draft to me didn’t have a great deal of QB talent
During the practice week leading up to the Senior Bowl, Jerry Jones said that the Cowboys would draft a QB.
Since that time, he\the FO could have soured on the prospects outside of the top three guys that were picked in the 1st round...but it still is a fact that Cowboys owner-general manager made that statement.

Personally I would have taken will in the 1st but I am excited to see mazi blow up opposing offenses. I see mazi as a win now 10 year player.

Duggan was the expected pick between the 5th and 7th in keeping with McCarthy's philosophy of taking a flyer on a QB every 2 to 3 years.
Why didn't they get Duggan?
Duggan graded out as an UDFA so it was likely they would get him without spending a draft choice..
Then the Chargers, proving other teams are just as stupid as we are, picked him at 239. Our next pick was 244.

I would have taken Hooker at 58. The only reason he was there is because of his injury. The guy is a true lottery ticket.

I thought Jethro promised he’d draft one. I was thinking it might be a mid to late round pick .

Even in 6th round Duggan from TCU was sitting there who didn’t end up going until 7th round I think .

Anyway, wonder why we didn’t live up to his claim on this?
Because Dak's dead cap for 2023

Don't want to hurt Dak's feelings by bringing in some competition.
Dak's dead cap numbers for 2023-25 are $89, 61 and 36 million respectively. What you gonna do, draft a qb, pay him 3 years to sit, then when he finally does get a year to play, you have to pay him a ton of money (if he was very good) based on 1 year's production or let go a player you invested 3 years of coaching in.

All a matter of the cap, no way they were drafting a quarterback this draft. Maybe next year. Maybe.

It could have been a future backup. We don’t expect Rush to stay here forever.

And with the likelihood Prescotts injuries will continue , you never know.I agree. what i dont want to do is blow a draft pick reaching for a qb ( or any other position) out of need. If the og where gone, rbs whoever go draft a more talented guy from a position that can help u

I didn’t hear that
Obviously he wasn’t talking about top 3
But I think if a guy they liked was there in the right round they would have taken a QB

I thought we'd get a Mike White type developmental in the late rounds, and notice how we did not even bring in an undrafted rookie QB as well.

Naaaah, we were not really serious or interested in a backup project QB

Bringing back Rush and Wil Grier

Three QBs selected in round 1 Thursday night.
Two QBs were chosen Friday night - one each in rounds 2 and 3.

Nine QBs were picked on Saturday___
4th round - Jake Haener (Fresno State), Stetson Bennett (Georgia), Aidan O'Connell (Purdue)
5th round - Clayton Tune (Houston), Dorian Thompson-Robinson (UCLA), Sean Clifford (Penn State), Jaren Hall (BYU)
6th round - Tanner Mckee (Stanford)
7th round - Max Duggan (TCU)

In summary - Dallas really had no desire or inkling to draft a QB to groom as a viable replacement to Cooper Rush as QB2 or Will Grier as QB3.

I don’t know how many were there when we picked in the round they got picked. They talked slot about Duggar but he was gone when we picked in 7th
I still think if there was a guy they liked in the round they liked him they would have picked one. But it’s not wise to pick a guy you see as a 7th round guy in the 6th round. You would have other guys graded higher

Duggan sucks. Why draft a rush replacement....

Duggan went @ 239, what # did dallas pick at?
they could have got duggan, and signed duece as a udfa.

I think jerry never intended to draft a qb, he was just blowing smoke.
They resigned rush, and dont really want a #3 qb.

I also doubt the cowboys would know how to use duggan as a running qb, like NO used taysome hill.
I dont know what chargers plan to do with him, ,

Phil got a decent looking qb, guess to bkp hurts.

Once you get deeper in the draft, the guy you pick has to be seen as better than Will Grier. If not, why waste the pick?

The people commenting about Dak are out to lunch. Jerry's comment about drafting a QB had nothing to do with him.

If you're ever a GM, and you find yourself thinking, should we try to improve our offense by drafting a TE or a guard, then maybe that's a clue you should be looking at the quarterback position, instead.

  • On Thursday, Jerry Jones said the Dallas Cowboys are committed to drafting a quarterback this offseason, sending the first warning shot to Dak Prescott. Now, Jones has doubled down on his comments and revealed which quarterback prospect impressed him the most in the Senior Bowl: TCU’s Max Duggan.

Then the guy really running the team said this.
