The utter dysfunction of the Cowboys continues!

what's next, rock, paper, scissors to decide which play is called

People keep comparing things to Al Davis but it won't ever get that bad. Or maybe it is depends on how you view it. Raiders were so bad they consitnently got top 10 picks. Which shouldn't be a bad thing but the guys kept missing every single year in the top 10. That's where the Raiders went wrong. Terrible drafts. Cowboys are always going to be good enough to win 8-8 or 9-7.....so they can't get the elite talent in the drafts but unlike the Raiders they actually hit on their 1st round picks.

That's very true, the Raiders missed on pretty much everyone, and the fact they didn't have a quarterback magnified the problem even further. Which is why I am concerned about life after Romo. Life after Aikman was horrible until we lucked into Romo, and what if Romo wasn't any good after he took over for Bledsoe? We could be rivaling Oakland's record the last ten years at this stage rocyaice.

It reminds me of the saying that every blind squirrel eventually finds an acorn.

Dreading life without Romo, and I am a guy that has started to doubt him.

Good question! How long *will* it take the fans who haven't thrown themselves off an emotional cliff yet to not throw themselves off it again at the rumored hiring of an experienced available offensive coach for the side of the ball-besides STs, I mean- that actually performed well this season?

My best guess is that nobody can say.[/quote

Why do we need him, again?

Just another day in the life of the Dallas Garrettboys.

Oh no, we cant fire Jason. We need continuity!!

Changes defenses, 3rd playcaller in 3 years.

Amazing...............3 different defensive coordinators and 3 different playcallers all to prop up the Golden Boy.

Exactly how many coaches do we have to go through before we figure out that maybe the problem is the one constant................Garrett.

Is there anyone else?

So you are telling me that Garrett has finally realized that not only does he suck at playcalling, but he thinks Callahan sucks at playcalling as well and he told Jerry that he needs to spend a couple of million on a new playcaller from outside the organization?

Well acceptance is the first step of recovery, so maybe Garrett finally accepting that he sucks and needs help is a good first step.

More than 1 constant - but I agree :)

The move makes some sense to me. While the red zone offense was better, Romo's YPA was much lower than previous years (See Bradshaw's rant earlier in the early in the year). So if you want more aggressive passing game and don't want Garrett to go back to play calling, then you have to hire someone else. If you don't want to mess with the O-line then Callihan has to stay too.

That means you hire a guy who will call the passing game. The Lions have had an aggressive passing game that will fit Romo's ability to get the ball to receivers down field. I think the move might quietly improve things.

I thought Romo had no zip on the deep ball anymore and the new dink and dunk offense was best suited to his current abilities and would help protect the defense? I think I read that on here last week.....

Not as quick as it'll take the realists to poo poo it.

We are just trying to figure out why the offensive guru has decided own his own that he nor anybody else on this coaching staff is competent enough to call the plays and an outside guy has to be hired specifically to call the plays and coordinate the passing game.

Isnt Garrett the one that should be coordinating the passing game? Wasn't he like the OC here since like 2007? So he has decided own his own that he sucks at it and needs help? This is after having the playcalling duties stripped from him last season for being a failure at that also, or was that Garrett's idea as well?

And what about Callahan, apparently Garrett thinks he sucks as well since hiring Linehan is being reported as Garrett's idea. So does Callahan agree with that assessment that he sucks at playcalling? Did he have a say in this?

Oh, good thinking.

I wonder if it'll be like a Captain Planet sort of thing where each coach calls out a unique trait that they contribute and afterwards a super coach spawns on the 50 yard line.
By our failures combined!!!

As opposed to what? The countless number of scumbag coaches who do things the "wrong way" and don't care one way or the other if they lose?

My point is just because you go about things the right way (according to one's own philosophy) doesn't always equate to being successful or having the skills necessary to succeed. That's true with coaches as well as players. Maximum effort does not always translate to positive results. I have no doubt JG gives his all as a HC, he just hasn't shown he possesses the skills necessary to be a quality HC in this league. Call it lack of experience or whatever, but he has come up short during his tenure, to this point.

Then why would we hire him? You don't need 3 OCs to implement an offense that we've been running for the better part of a decade. Jerry obviously thinks we're missing something offensively that JG cant probide and is hoping linehan can fix it.

1. what would you call it when we had Mo Carthon and Sean Payton on staff?
2. It's good to have experienced coaches that have had success in this league
3. This doesn't mean Linehan is teaching Garrett how to coach.
4. Linehan and Garrett have worked with each other previously and are philosophically compatible
