Who is leaving? According to the last few things I read, all are expected to be retained, even Nguyen who some people believed was going to USC. You know Phillips' son is not going to go elsewhere. As for Maxie, I could care less.

The only move we "need" to make is Houck. If it is not him, you might as well just keep the rest. Replacing any of the others is not going to make much of an impact. I do know our OL has to improve. More of the same is not going to help this team advance.

So if another team approached one of our assistance and was offered a higher position he would not be able to leave? This is all I was asking, not trying to debate you. Yes I think this staff will remain in tact my only exception to any of this was a coach being offered a better job else where.

What the heck is that all about? Wade has won the east two times in three years. They should fear Wade.

True I guess it does not say much for their coaches having Wade take the NFC East 2 out of the 3 years he has been here. :lmao2:

I've lost all respect for Florio. He's a complete *****.
1) Why would you have respect for him at all after all these years?

2) He's right, in this case.

Looks like it is just a 2 year extension instead of 3. This is good news in my opinion.

Jones "encouraged" by Phillips, not "satisfied"

Posted by Michael David Smith on January 21, 2010 1:41 PM ET
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed today that he has extended the contract of head coach Wade Phillips. But he said at a press conference that he expects Phillips to produce better results in 2010 than he did in 2009.

"I'm encouraged by the progress we've made this year," Jones said. "But in no way are we satisfied."

Jones referred to the contract he and Phillips agreed to as a two-year extension that represents "a great value for this franchise," and he said he's pleased that the players are "embracing Wade's leadership as head coach."

On the other hand, Jones made clear that he wasn't happy with the Cowboys' showing in their playoff loss to the Vikings.

"It wasn't good enough for us, our fans or our coaches," Jones said. "It's about moving forward in the postseason."

Phillips echoed Jones' statements, saying he understands that the Cowboys' goal is to win the Super Bowl.

"We've done a lot of good things and won a lot of games," Phillips said. "That isn't my goal. My goal is to win the championship."

Bravo.

Well done, Wade.

That's almost word-for-word what I suggested you say ... as opposed to the "elite 8" comment from two years ago.

He's getting it. Maybe Jerry is helping him get it.

1st off he said those teams fans not the teams themselves.

2nd a friend of mine who's a Giants fan called me yesterday and said "well atleast I know you guys won't win a Superbowl in the next 3 years with Wade as the head coach".

the Giants,Eagle,Skins and most of the other fans around the league don't think Dallas will win a Superbowl with Wade as the head coach.

I'm fine with it. There isn't anyone else out there right now that just jumps off the page at me as someone I'm just dying to have.

Most did not think he could win a playoff game so alot they know. Fans of other teams feel Wade can't win nothing to see here. :lmao2:

11-7 versus the NFC East in the regular season. 1-1 in the playoffs.

I suppose that should inspire fear and awe.

As you know, I like Wade, but I do think he didn't fully understand the expectations of this franchise when he got here. I think he's made progress in this area as he's learned they way things are here.

IMO almost any coach would have to go through this. I think even Parcells did a little bit in learning the 24/7 scrutiny that every single decision goes through regarding this team.

I was pleased that he gradually got a thicker skin. There was a few less excuses and chuckles about bye weeks equating to winning and less references to his overall career regular season winning percentage as the season went along.

Being a coach who was born here in Texas coached here in Texas I think knows what the expectation in Dallas is. I don't think Wade was blind to this. Just as many analyst have said about Romo and the expectation placed on QB's in Dallas those same high expectation are placed on HC.

Phillips contract runs through 2011

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on January 21, 2010 2:50 PM ET
Wade Phillips has slightly less long-term security than we originally thought.

Initial reports about his contract extension said he was signed through 2012. It turns out the deal only goes through 2011.

The confusion came because of a removed option year for 2012, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The deal was originally drawn up with the option, but at the last moment the final year was taken out.

Whatever the reason, the shorter contract means that there will be questions about Phillips' contract again next year. Jones won't want Phillips to be a "lame duck" coach in 2011.

Then again, Phillips is basically year-to-year unless he wins a Super Bowl. Jerry Jones said as much Thursday.

"I'm encouraged by the progress we made this year, but in no way are we satisfied,'' Jones said. "This contract represents that. Two years in the NFL is an eternity, but it has to be urgent. It has to be addressed as though there is no tomorrow.''

All Wade has to do is win the Superbowl, it makes sense to me.

Let's just sit back and see how this turns out, I'm fine with it for now. We made an initial baby step this season at improving but it's yet to be seen if he is a SB coach.
