This was rumored to be an option here for about a week or so. Looks like the knee issue was chronic.

Neal does probably get the nod here, I bet.

Bringing in Jarron Jones just a week or so ago is also oddly peculiar. Then again, maybe they see potential in him as a future project at OT?

Carroll
Thornton
Paea

Three guys that was rumored Marinelli really wanted. I guess I can kind of give him a pass on Paea given the knee issue but overall, this is just more evidence that maybe they should think about a revamp of the defense this offseason from coaching, scheme and personnel decision making.

Taco Charlton, Maliek Collins, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods, Anthony Brown, Byron Jones, Demarcus Lawrence, Damien Wilson, Jaylon Smith.........

They have.

Should have kept Church and Carr though.

Exactly. They HAVE been drafting defense, just missing on some though. And, going back to Claiborne & Lawrence, sacrificing picks to move up hasn't played out altogether.
Agree on Church & Carr also. I don't miss Claiborne though.

We have been drafting on defense.
We got into this "not signing high priced fa" thing, you can have a philosophy but don't take it to the extreme. You have to have leaders with experience, that's why we're suffering in the secondary. The kids are talented but they are just kids.
As far as safety, there has to be someone between Heath and Earl Thomas that they could've signed.

Be nice to see a good player come in to take the place of Him or Nolan although I think the CB has already been replaced.

However I doubt there are too many decent FA still out there that will excite too many.

Also don't know if there are any decent trades that could be made. At one time I would expect Jerry to trade for a big time player only to have them get over paid, give up too much to get them.

Now I expect if they make a trade it will be a lower round conditional pick for a player that might have flashed some in preseason or on a teams practice squad but not someone that is going to excite many around here.

Who did we sign to replace Carroll?

Not being sarcastic, seriously asking. Haven't seen it anywhere yet.

Rodgers made him retire. He must have been tired of losing to the Packers from all those seasons in Chicago too

One glaring gap when you look at the defense IMO is the lack of investment in the other DT spot. We've drafted DEs (Lawrence, Charlton, Gregory, Tapper). We've drafted S (Woods, Jones, Heath). We've drafted LBs (Hitchens, Smith, Wilson). We've drafted CBs (Awuzie, Lewis, White). We've even drafted 3 techs (Collins, Crawford is really a 3 tech).

We've not really drafted at all for the 1 tech spot. And it's a spot that routinely gives us a bit of a problem and IMO was a big problem for this team even before Paea retired.
