I like Spears a lot, but if we are getting a 1st round pick for him, I hope he gets a deal. That would be one hell of a gamble paid off by Jerry and the Front Office.

The Patriots need a DE badly. I would so take their pick.

The only bad thing is that you risk him not getting an offer because his tender compensation is too high and scares off interested teams, you get him back and pay him barely anything and he plays upset.... There is something to be said about pissing off your players by valuing them so low monetarily while essentially blocking them getting paid (what they believe they're deserved) by tendering them as a 1st round compensation.

Many people say he's a great guy and all, but do you wanna bet that he'll grit his teeth and play like nothing's wrong if he has to play the next season for a paltry $1.226 million while his backups get more than him? I doubt it.

If he wants to sabotage his career, let him do so.

There has to be some sense of self worth.... I don't think he values his play at only $1.226 million. I know I don't.

And they have plenty of picks to be able to move on the guy.

In reality though, I don't see a 1st coming from anyone for Spears.

2nd was a little of a longshot, 1st I just can't see.

Spears would actually be a great fit in their 3-4 too. He wouldn't have to worry too much about stopping the run because of their style of linebacking.

Agreed. No one's giving a 1st for Spears. Do we HAVE to get a first for Spears? I thought the tenders were just a starting point, negotiations could basically include anything.

This is true, if they're negotiating with the team independent from offering a deal, I believe.

If they're simply signing him to an offer sheet, there is no negotiation. They can negotiate terms other than the tender though, as far as trades are concerned.

Yeah that's what I was wondering. Thanks. I have a feeling Spears will be gone by next season in that case.

Hopefully the Pats are high on him.

They have 3 2nd rounders.

Maybe they can hand one of those over to us?:D

I see a 3 or 4 year deal from us in Spears near future.

now here's something we agree on.:D

Spears is valuable to us. Somebody mentioned Hatcher playing well, i must have missed it beacuse Bowen outplayed him easily. Hatcher has underwhelmed since he showed promise his rookie year and of the 3 i'd be willing to lose him over Spears and Bowen.

Hatcher plays on pass rushing downs in the nickel front when its 8/10 a passing situation, and he still couldnt get to the qb. He's also a non-factor in the run game. I think its possble we look at somebody like Lamarr Hosuton, Mike Neal or Geno Atkins in the draft.

This just in:

The Cowboys have essentially told Spears that they want a 2nd-rounder, not him.

Spears will have a busy offseason in interviewing but he will face the harsh reality of his true market value.

having said that, now watch Al Davis offer him a $10 million per year deal.

I just figured that the original draft choice tender was a way to get Spears to soften his position on a contract extension. I never figured a team would give up even a second for him, but, by paying him less on his tender, he has more motivation to agree to a contract extension that the team likes.
