I'd really give him 7 million over 6.. and nah, I'm not joking. Maybe an injury clause...

Everyone buying in to the hype again. Sure, Lee is good but he can't stay on the field due to injuries.
How about something crazy like locking up players who are good and can stay on the field and play the whole season.

Name him.

Folks seem to forget there are no guarantees with this pro-football thing. You take calculated risks but there aren't any 100% "sure-things" out there.

Extending Lee now is going to be less expensive than resigning him next winter.

Not sure about injury clauses as there is the CBA to consider. Pretty sure u can still have performance and snaps language. Ur going to have to give him guaranteed money to get a contract signed but he'll have to give up something.

They better lock up his backup, as well. He hasn't finished a season yet.

I can't believe we have fans panning the attempt to extend Sean Lee.

I like Lee as much as anybody, but no way am I giving him 7 mil a year at this point.

Jerry will give him $15 mil per year.

Really though, we need to lock him up and his injury history could help us in negotiations.

I sure hope to see Sean and Bruce play many years side by side. What a duo those two can become.

A lot of it probably won't be guaranteed money. The relatively minor, miss a few games types of injuries are the ones that cost you a lot of money because the player hangs around until next season. If they were able to stay completely healthy then the team does well, or if the injury is too bad you can cut him and save a pile.

If we didn't try to lock Lee up - people would complain - now that we are - - - well.......some will complain just for the sake of complaining. . . . .02

Id guess 8 million a year in new money.

That's way more than Bowman got and he's played 32 straight games, made a Pro Bowl and been to the Super Bowl.

I think that's basically what Patrick Willis makes. At his position, most of the premier players make $7-8.5M/yr.

I'd argue he should be around $6M/yr. If we pay more we are severely overpaying him given his health history. I really think it should be more like $4M/yr with incentives based on health and play that would push it to $6-7M/yr but Jerry and Stephen are horrible negotiators because they are always desperate to get their own guys re-signed and I'm sure agents know it.

Bowman got 9 a year in new money. David harris got 9. chad greenway got 8. Ellerby got 7. Willis signed a while ago, have to account for inflation.

Saying he should be worth 6 is kinda ridiculous. Its hard to make an argument for less than 7 based on the market.

you can not predict injuries. he may be hurt again this year and he may never miss another game. the one thing you can predict is that if you don't lock him up he will cost a whole lot more money later

Ahmad Brooks got a little over 6 million a year in his recent contract extension. If we can get Lee for 7 a year that'll be a steal if he stays healthy.

You think Spencer is going to miss more games over the next few years? Or do you think Lee is just that much better?

Lee is still somewhat unproven, but I think Spencer has peaked and his production will level off or decline. Of course, I have been wrong before.

anytime you give a long term deal it comes with some risk. Lee is a very good player and a guy the Cowboys are banking on. I can't say I blame them.

He's a young team leader and a very good player. They'll work out a lucrative long-term deal with him that'll have a small discount or some protections in year two or three against a significant injury.
