I think is a nice contract and would rather lock him up now before he shows his full potential.

Perhaps you use the word fans too loosely?

I don't like to go after someone's fanhood, since that means very different things to different people, but I don't understand at all not appreciating an effort to extend Lee. Granted, there are injury issues with the player, but that obviously gets factored into the extension. Otherwise, he's everything you could ask for in a player, including being a team leader.

He's a young team leader and a very good player. They'll work out a lucrative long-term deal with him that'll have a small discount or some protections in year two or three against a significant injury.

I agree. It would be foolish to let him hit FA same with Dez

Some people will complain no matter what the Cowboys do. I have no doubt that if Dallas let Lee walk some of the exact same posters who are griping about signing him would also be screaming about letting him go.

Literally, there is no pleasing some of the "fans".

I agree, 100%. If no the very same fans, it'd be that same type of poster who complains either way.

'Pleasing' them is possible, it's just going to take a Superbowl. The problem is, they don't bother to distinguish between things that are positive and things that are negative in the interim. That's what drives me batty. If we're going to take the time to discuss the team so intimately, at least try to complain about the things that actually are a problem. Sean Lee's new contract and Demarcus Ware's mean streak are not the things we need to be worrying about with this current team.

Sean Lee has the potential and talent to be the best DEFENSIVE player in the NFL in my opinion, not just the best middle linebacker. He works very hard, is extremely athletic, and has proven that when he's on the field he's a true game changer for the Cowboys defense. I would sign him to a long term deal just based on his potential alone, he is worth taking that risk. But like someone said, I'd like to see them be a little conservative with the guarantees given his injury history.

I really think when the Cowboys went out and signed Monte Kiffen, they really invisioned transitioning from DeMarcus Ware/Anthony Spencer to Sean Lee/Bruce Carter as the focal point of their defense! In my mind is not a bad move at all given Ware's age. If Lee/Carter are healthy, this defense has the potential to be dynamic and one of if not the best in the NFL, but it's a huge gamble. If it fails everyone's going to play Monday Morning QB and criticize the hell out of them, but you need to take risks to get where you want to be and I think this is a good bet to make!

I think this is very likely, too. Obviously, the DEs are hugely important too, but Lee and Carter were a big justification for bringing back the 4-3.

Would you want him on your team at any price? If the answer is 'yes' talking about an extension makes sense.

I'm a skeptic, anyway, when it comes to teams' ability to predict future injuries for any player. Other than guys who have chronic problems--such as recurring hamstring issues, or concussions, or recurring back problems, etc--I wouldn't let a small sample of varying injuries determine from signing a cornerstone player.

I don't have an issue with it if it is some posters. They don't like anything the teams does, and to me that is not a fan. At least appreciate something. Anything. Start small. I'll take it. But when posters don't like like the stadium, the cheerleaders, the front office, the coaches, the History, or the players, then I don't see how they are fans. Nope, just don't see it, and I don't mind saying so.

When he's on the field he is a top 5 player on the team, arguably top 3. He's a must (re)sign.

I like Lee a lot, and if they extend him long term and it is for quite a bit of money, I just hope he stays relatively injury free, which judging from past history, is somewhat of a concern.

Lee is the leader and future of this defense, lock him up now, before it becomes more money.

lock him up now before he has a full season and makes the Pro Bowl

I sort of agree. I'd like Dallas to wait until the end of training camp and see if he at least enters the season healthy. The Cowboys should still be able to get him for the same price at that point and will have had a couple of healthy months to build some faith.

Overpay? You mean 'extend'?

You're just looking for something to complain about.

I think there are plenty here who are primarily negative and while that's not my definition of fandom there is nothing wrong with it. That's how they wish to follow their team. Can it be annoying at times? Sure. Some of us who are mostly optimistic might annoy some as well. There's plenty of room at the inn for all kinds of fans. And over the years it's been my observation that many fans of all sports at all levels take things pretty seriously at times and are often interested in taking heads often pretty quickly and not always judiciously.

Sean Lee is the best player on this team, when healthy.

I'm not sure if he'll ever complete a full season.
