They do though. CD has no choice but to show up at some point. His union negotiated holdouts being useless. He can hold out fir the season but he's only hurting his value at that point.
They don't. CeeDee only needs to show up for 6 games to have a season credited to him. You want to risk this offense without CeeDee for 11 games? It all but ends the season without him there because they have nothing behind him to take his place. That's his leverage. This is the same situation Zeke was in a few years back. He held out being the key to the offense. Stephen said publicly that the Cowboys weren't going to be market setters with Zeke. What happened there? Same thing that will happen here. That's why the Cowboys are playing ball in negotiations. They have to do the posturing thing but most of us know how this is going to end.

CD dies not have leverage. Zeke did not have leverage. Jerry just pays his guys. It's real simple. Jerry pays top dollar to his guys. Players abd Agents know it. Just fans like to pretend and complain that he does not.

Speaking of pretending .... If Zeke didn't have leverage, why didn't the Cowboys just let him sit in Cabo and roll with the rookie Pollard? Stephen said out loud they weren't going to set the market and then did. What caused that? Good will? Lol. Jerry didn't just pay Gregory. Or Shultz. Y'all who want to deny players their money can wishcast all you want but the players who hold leverage get paid. It's that way across the league.

I think 33M is too much for one WR on a team struggling to advance in the playoffs. Paying more for Lamb and hoping last year becomes the norm is foolish b/c his numbers mean nothing in the context of a team not competing for super bowls. Having one of the top paid WRs in the league is a luxury Dallas can't afford. This isn't KC or SF trying to keep a super bowl roster together. This group isn't even close. You improve the team by improving the bottom and middle of the roster, and we need cap dollars and draft picks to do it.

I think we are at a agree to disagree point.

You can never tell what these people want. Both owners and players. Some want it, some don't. You're right in some cases. In other cases the team doesn't want to do it. When was the last time the Cowboys signed a first round pick after 3 years? Zeke, but only because he forced it.
Oh, and Donald and Mack didn’t get their extension until their 5th season. Donald held out all training camp his 4th season including missing the 1st game!

There was no way Zeke was ever going to get the 30 million over the last 2 years of that contract. Essentially it was 3 million total more than what Gurley got 57m. Zeke’s signing bonus at 7.5m plus was about a 3rd of the 21m Gurley received. Zeke got more guaranteed money at 50m compared to 45m. About 15-20m of that was money he would have gotten over the last 2 years of his rookie contract with the 5th year option anyway. Not exactly resetting the market!

Question for everyone please…

Can you point to any other team in the league that floats contract offers through the press? This seems to be a moronic new tactic for the Cowboys. I don’t recall seeing this so often.
Every superstar up for big money is in the news. All the QBs and WRs $$$ rumors are online. It's only a Cowboy thing if you only read about the Cowboys.

The “we offered ________ $_______” is seldom seen in my opinion.

If Jerry is willing to tank the season then he has leverage. We all know he doesn't want to do that. He has to have the Cowboys stay relevant which is why he always caves in. the players know this too. If CD wasn't prepared to sit out some regular season games then the holdout is meaningless because nobody cares about the preseason.

So does a cop and a firefighter. Piss poor analogy. We need emergency services. Not quite sure we need football.
Different revenue streams. If people want cops and firefighters to get more, they should step up and volunteer to pay more taxes. Should you decide to start a movement in that vein, let me know how far it gets.

It's impossible to tank the season when you have a double digit winning team.

I guess it’s a norm now to want to be the highest paid player at your position, or even in history of the NFL.
Genuine elite players are few in between, but seems like any player up for extension wants to be paid like they’re the best ever to play the game.
It’s a conundrum for sure for the any FO in any processional sports.
