If there was ever a way for Jerry and co to prove that this year was different, this was the perfect chance. They’ve already acquired Gary, now Crosby is back on the market, all that chatter about busting the budget, now is the time to put your money where your mouth is. And how do the cowboys respond ? “we are not expected to re-engage in trade talks for Maxx Crosby. Acquiring R. Gary and deciding that that takes you out of the running for Crosby is laughable at best.

I’m not going to close the door entirely on the Cowboys being out just yet. But if the latest reports are true, it’s just another offseason of the Cowboys not delivering.

The fact we identified Nakobe Dean (and Quay Walker?), spoke and offered him a contract......but wouldnt go the extra mile to guarantee the signing, kind of gives an indication of how it will end.

There aren’t any high ticket free agents left. Who is left? Hendrickson off the board now to Baltimore. There is still plenty of time to make something happen but what is left?

How high do you believe we will prioritize CB in this draft? I’m thinking it’s MUCH lower on team needs list than any other defensive position.

I don't know. Secondary was our weakest area last year BUT the team may view Revel and Bland as the starters and believe we only need to find a nickel starter. Of course, because of the play of the group last year, it could be at the top of the list since you pretty much need three starters anyway.

I would think they had a very good reason to have cold feet. You arent making that trade and backing out without information showing you arent going to get what you are paying for. Especially an organization as astute as Baltimore

The worst case scenario in the mocks I have done seem to be when we are wiped out with premier defensive talent at #12 and are faced with 1. Reaching for need, 2. Drafting an OT or 3. Drafting Love and NOT GETTING A TRADE BACK OFFER.

If that scenario happens (and it’s somewhat likely actually) it makes it a really challenging draft to not chase your tail.

Additionally, I would add that it seems critical to add one of Mesidore, Howell, Thomas, or Bain (in the unlikely event he falls) or pretty much give up on edge and go with a guy who can play off ball standup OLB instead.

There are several good linebackers but you better grab one by about pick 35-40 or you will be picking from a different (lower) tier.

I think the premier defense talent will be gone before 12, so if we don't get a trade offer, we're in a bad spot. I've seen some mock Dillon Thienemen to us at 12 perhaps because of that. I think that's a bit of a reach but wouldn't be against it. OL or WR probably will be the best value or Love, if he makes it to that point.

I could definitely see a DE at 20 because we haven't done enough there and it's a high-value position. I'm just not sure of the quality at that point. Of course, I do think we can get a quality starting linebacker a little lower than 20.

My draft right now would go something like 21 (trade down with Pittsburgh to pick up a second) CB Avieon Terrell or Colton Hood; trade down from 20 to 28-32 and take LB Jacob Rodriguez. With Pittsburgh's pick take Gabe Jacas or A.J. Haulcy. With the pick we get for trading down from 20, take Genesis Smith or Malachi Lawrence. (Obviously, we don't know who will be available.)

I really thought the Gary deal was a sign they would be more aggressive here. In Gary, they took on what essentially was a two year contract that gave them max flexibility. I assumed they'd restructure his deal, open up some space and use it to get aggressive at LB or even another edge guy.

Yep, Gary was supposed to be a piece, nobody thought he was THE piece. Im still going with the inability to beat the Raiders for Dean and Walker when we dont have any MLB's

We need lots of everything. Safety, unless it was Downs somehow, was a free agent target for me because I’ve been looking at CB and LB with our two firsts

I don’t see them selecting Downs anymore because linebacker and corner are positions of need. I still can’t understand how a team with an obvious, glaring need at linebacker, and several available options, didn’t make a single pick to address that need. Are they trying to be cute?

I’ll take it a step further. I don’t think Dallas were ever seriously trying to sign Crosby at true market value. It feels more like they put out an offer they knew wouldn’t be competitive—just enough so fans could say they at least tried to land a difference-maker.
Once they were inevitably outbid, dumb & dumber could point to that and claim they made the effort. Then, instead of aggressively pivoting to someone like Hendrickson, as some reports suggested, they moved on to what was likely the plan all along: targeting cheaper, mid-tier players who are average to slightly above-average replacements rather than true impact free agents.

I think what the Cowboys did was dishonest. They told fans they were going to spend big and bust the budget, then did nothing at all. From what I’ve seen of most of the linebackers, except Dean and Walker, the Cowboys didn’t even try.

Let’s call it what it is: the Joneses are snake-oil salesmen.

Parker has to be looking at our potential starters, Revel and Bland, and know we can do better than that. Unfortunately, he won’t have the luxury of picking a top corner because we didn’t sign any linebackers in free agency.
