Dallas Cowboys first-round draft pick Byron Jones was considered a "workout warrior" after the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
The defensive back astonished those in attendance with 44.5-inch vertical jump and a 147.0-inch broad jump, a new world record. Jones also ran a 4.36 40-yard dash time at his pro day in March, blazing fast.
But the rookie, like most first-year players, is still getting adjusted to the speed of the game during Cowboys OTAs.
"Everyone's good and everyone's fast." Jones said on the transition from college to the NFL. "You've got to know what you're doing. You can't just give all your effort. You also got to know what the heck you're doing. You can't just run out there (like a) chicken with your head cut off. You've got to know your technique, know your assignment, know where your help is."
As for the conditioning?
"It's tough," Jones said. "I'm starting to feel better out there though. Today, I think it was a little bit hotter today than it was yesterday, but I felt good just trying to hydrate."
Jones has been listening to what the Cowboys trainers what the nutritionist have been saying. He chuckled at the fact that fellow rookie Randy Gregory vomited at practice on Wednesday while he kept his lunch from coming out

I don't expect him to become an amazing corner, but I do think he will be a very good corner for a long time. Not the flashiest, not always making the huge play, but consistently good. Regularly knocking passes down, always tight in coverage.

Who would be a good comparison? Maybe a Jonathan Joseph type? Joe Haden?

I like this kid. Additionally, I could see him as our future safety too. He's versatile.

Lolol Haden is one of the best in the game. Doesn't fit your description of what you expect from Jones

He's quietly one of the best in the game and he's not a flashy turnover machine. He's averaged 3.2 INT per season.

This was exactly my point. That's what I think Byron Jones will be. No Richard Sherman or Darrelle Revis, but a great corner in his own respect.

No need to lolol me.

No doubt this kid is an athletic freak, breaking a world record broad jump and a great vertical jump. Add speed and work ethic Dallas very well could have found a great CB and or safety.

I like the way he moves. Calm at the outset and just mirrors his guy and makes his plays. Good reach and great hops and in position. He looked like an eraser in the rookie camp on everybody but Farmer. He's fun to watch play.

We had a reciever that was something like 6' 5", 230lbs., and ran a 4.3 plus a hair. Too bad he wasn't a very good football player. lol.
I think his name was Randall Williams? Is that right?

Fastest TD to start a game in NFL history I believe. Didn't do much else though.
