Cowboys first-round pick Byron Jones adjusting to NFL speed

Fastest TD to start a game in NFL history I believe. Didn't do much else though.

I don't know what is sweeter: This Randall Williams TD or the Rocket Ismael TD in Washington on Opening Day 1999?

The Randall Williams TD showed me that the Cowboys, under Parcells, was starting to turn a corner. This team was being prepared for every situation. Dallas still didn't have much talent at that time, but Parcells got the absolute most out of them. This was most likely the best coaching job Bill Parcells ever did.

It's early yet and there's much more than measurables to being an elite CB. Jones shows promise right now but that's about all we can say for certain. He's got a long ways to go to prove himself in the professional ranks before he'll be deserving of a pedestal. So far, he's been impressive without the pads on. Let's see if that continues before we, as Parcells would say, "put him in the Hall of Fame." We'll all know in due time. As for now, so far, so good.

I know it was just last year, but this play where Romo absolutely embarrasses Watt for a long bomb.. Smh. One of the best pass plays I've seen..

First impressions of Byron.. he talks like a pro already, seems to know what's going on more than most rookies. Intelligent, knows his primary assignment as well as Safety. Goes about his business Sean Lee "like". Seems to fit perfect within Garretts business like attitude.
I believe the Cowboys have found another gem. He does the right things as a player and has all the intangibles of a great player.. The sky's the limit for this kid. The Senator will have to pass the torch to this congressman

I don't expect him to become an amazing corner, but I do think he will be a very good corner for a long time. Not the flashiest, not always making the huge play, but consistently good. Regularly knocking passes down, always tight in coverage.

Who would be a good comparison? Maybe a Jonathan Joseph type? Joe Haden?

He had such a poor ending to his career here, but what about Terence Newman? He had a solid eight years in the blue/white. If not for his draft status, folks wouldn't even blink at the comparison.

I thought about mentioning him, but didn't want the backlash :p

I would take another Terence Newman. The guy was so under appreciated, mostly because opposing QBs hardly threw to him early in his career which ultimately lowered his interceptions. He didn't have the size Byron Jones has though, nor the leap.

I agree Byron. You can't just go out there like Claiborne.

This kid gets it.

That's what happens when you draft a guy who scored a 4 on the wonderlic test. He doesn't understand the game at this level is beyond just physical abilities.

I personally loved T Newman.. still root for him

I did not realize he scored that low on the test. The possible score range is 1 to 50.
The average football player scores around 20 points and scoring at least 10 points suggests a person is literate.

With that in mind, Isnt a score of 4 borderline brain dead?

DUH!

The typical adjusting to NFL speed article that we see every single year. Yaaawn.

Byron turning into a player for the Cowboys will help ease the drafting whiff of Morris Claiborne.

Now there's still yet a very small glimmer of hope for Claiborne, and I'm going to be cheering him on, but Byron coming on for us will really help that situation.
