12 sounds about right. It is. Someone said 12 million.
I think we should offer Polly a 4 year/36 mill deal.

That's definitely affordable for him long term to be our Aaron Jones basically. Dual threat change of pace back, not necessarily the starter but also not the bell cow who's as likely to get injured plowing through OLs and DLs twenty times a game.
The Zeke/AJ Dillon role is more replaceable. Keep drafting bigger backs who can block and pick up the blitz. Those guys you can draft and replace. The guys like Kamara, McCaffrey and Pollard are rare. But Atlanta and Carolina overused the former two and got them chronically injured; I hope we don't do the same with Pollard after we re-sign him.
Schultz can pound sand in the offseason honestly. He's a below average blocker and he doesn't make the difficult red zone catches like we saw today. He's only good for catching if he's wiiiiiiiiiiiide open.
And they *finally* found another obvious way for Pollard to hurt a defense - they sent Pollard deep. Such a no brainer. Way too fast for most LBs to keep up with. Get Pollard in motion, see if a LB is in man coverage on him, and if so, he goes deep.
Only took them three and a half years to figure that one out.
I hesitate to give an RB big money. That said, I think that if Pollard was the featured back in a two back system, he would look like a top 5 RB. Out of all the players on the Cowboys, I think Pollard is the most disrespected. Even his fans don't seem to recognize how good he is.

Here is a fun one: Tony Pollard leads the NFL in yards after contact / rush. Its not a fluke. He was 6th last year. He is a much tougher runner than people give him credit for. He doesn't just go down.
Roshan Johnson from TX in the 3rd or 4th round would be steal. Im bias But..) he would work but don't forget Maik Davis already showing flashes.I've already been thinking about a replacement for Zeke, if it happens. SaRodorick Thompson from Texas Tech. 6'0" 220 pounds.
Whatever happens with Pollard and a future contract, I hope this front office has learned some things:
- Don’t draft a RB in round one. There are many really good backs on day 2 and 3 of the draft. As Pollard exemplifies.
- Having two or maybe three good RBs in a “committee” is better than putting all salary in one “star” RB (like we did with Zeke) I would rather have 2-3 really good backs on “rookie deals” than a high salaried back on a huge deal.
- The only way Zeke should be here next year is on a greatly reduced salary. (I would actually cut him)
- Most important point: Having an excellent offensive line is more important than having a great back.
how much will we save by releasing Zeke? There is no way he stays unless he takes a huge pay cut. There is just no way you cant let Pollard walk and think you can just draft a replacement for him.I think I read the tag for RBs is around $12 million.
If Jimmy and Jerry had listened to the idiots saying never pay a RB we would have let Emmitt go in 1993; remember his holdout?
so why dont we see those Pollard type explosive plays every week from the Pats, Bucs, Packers, and on and on.Both Zeke and Tony's replacements will be drafted in April.
RB's are a dime a dozen. Don't pay that kind of money.
Here are the current top 10 RBs statistically in the NFL and round they were drafted:Did we know Pollard was going to be as good ..as explosively impact as he is now coming out of Memphis St. ? .. Nope.
If that was such the case, he would've been drafed far much higher than the 4th round.
Difference is now ...because of his frequent feats of explosiveness on this very Cowboys team - we know or sure now what he can do, what he is capable of .
We dunno what we're getting in the NFL draft, ..I'm sure a dozen upon dozen of NFL teams have tried to pick out those really good backs later in the draft, and came up
with JAGs.
While i am with those that do not believe in drafting RBs in the first round - just for the sake of drafting one- that's how you end up with..
- Chiefs drafted Clyde Edwards Helaire in first rd. There's nuthin' special about him
- Ditto with Steelers with Najee Harris
- But If RBs were dime a dozen - every team would have a Tony Pollard,.. if you get lucky to get a Henry, a Taylor,..
. if you discover a Nick Chubb or Alvin Kamara, you lock them up contractually for years to come.
- Here's the 2nd big thing.- you have to know your RBs skill set and design your offense to them accordingly ..and you cannot overexpose to relentless pounding wear and tear like some
HCs do (please see Jason Garrett) ..

yet this PLACE has said "Do NOT pay a rb a 2nd contract for any significant money" because you can replace them easily. Look at all the retreads like Fournette, Foreman and others having success. Late round Rbs having success including pollard, why pay pollard if zekes deal was a mistake.so why dont we see those Pollard type explosive plays every week from the Pats, Bucs, Packers, and on and on.
Pollard has shown what he is worth to this team. By releasing Zeke, we can pay pollard.
It was 9.5 this year, can’t see it jumping 3.5 in just one season!
Spin it however you prefer.
Normally battling injuries, Murray had a superlative and healthy 2014 season (biggest single season team record for rushing yards) that the Cowboys did not think he could keep up the level - again in the teams' eyes as a one year wonder- and for whatever reason they did not think he was a special back.
They thought of him as a serviceable workhorse,.. nuthin more.
Coincidentally this was the very same Cowboys team that dare thought Joseph Randle could be a featured back.
Go figure.
Hell no!!
they blew it. 3.5 years wasted of pollard.
but you can’t bust the script. Never pay backs big money.
You pay Pollard, the best weapon on this team.
