There are three trails the rest of this season can take, and the two outside ones leave little doubt about Tom Coughlin's future. If the Giants make the playoffs and win a game or two, he'll get an extension on the one year he has remaining on his contract. If the Giants collapse and fail to make the playoffs, it's goodbye time. But it's that middle trail that is tricky, the one this team has taken the past two seasons: make the playoffs, but get bounced in the first round. That would continue to raise questions about just how far Coughlin can take this team. That could spark an urge in general manager Jerry Reese – who says it is inappropriate to comment on the matter at this time – to look for an alternative. This year there could be one young plum, Jason Garrett, the Cowboys' offensive coordinator who has ties with the Giants. -- Bergen Record

It makes me sick even thinking about Garrett leaving. I'm not going to believe it is a real possibility until it actually happens. Hopefully Garrett will be smart enough to realize he's got a good thing in Dallas where we all know he'll be the next coach for many years and not leave for the NY pastures. Just hoping he and Jerry have some unspoken agreement which Garrett intends to honor but admit to being worried. I very much want Romo to have another year under the Garrett/Sparano regime.

If garrett is half as smart as everyone gives him credit for, he won't even think about leaving. He has got to know that he is next in line and its only a matter of a short amount of time before hes the HC.

He would be an idiot to leave Dallas for the 1st job that comes his way.

He's got an ivy league education. He's not going anywhere.

Not going to happen.

Jerry basically said that he went to alot of trouble getting Garrett relased from his contract in Miami and that he was not going to just sit back and let somebody steal him.

Jerry talked like he knew something the rest of us didnt. He didnt sound too worried, I wonder if there is already "a gentlemen's agreement" between the 2 of them.:D

If JG decides to leave for a HC job, there isn't much J. Jones can do about it.

We are going to see lot of these JG could be HC of (insert team here) articles until beginning of next season, I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it happens then so be it, Cowboys will move on.

Wait, let me summarize the rest of this thread

A. "jerry will promise him to HC job in a year or two"

B. "Garrett wants to be the HC here, so he's staying"

vs.

C. "Garrett would be an idiot to pass up a good HC job"

D. "Garrett has ties to NY just like Dallas"

Are we gonna have a daily JG thread?

He's not going anywhere.

Can we please hold off on these to the offseason?!

I agree with alot of the reasons that are posted on here about him not leaving.

No one wants to give him any credit for loyalty. The Dallas Cowboys are "IT" for him. Jason is HOME.

There is alot of wait in that.

I dunno. I wouldn't bet the farm on that. I'm sure Jerry will do all he can to keep Garrett in Dallas, but he's not gonna fire Wade to do it. As long as the team is contending for the championship and Philips wants to stay, he'll be the HC of the Dallas Cowboys. I could easily see Wade in Dallas five-plus more years. I'd love for Garrett to be the next head coach in Dallas, but I don't think he'll wait years to take over. Personally, I think it's almost as important that we keep Sporano.

Wade without Garrett and things would be much different. Much.

Give Wade 2 years...maybe 3 and thats it.

No. That wasn't me. I generally don't blast anyone for anything until I see how it works out. May have been "VA Cowboy" (notice the space).

And, yeah. Considering the way the OL is performing, I think it's pretty important that the team retain the guy that's coaching them.

Very possibly, but the offense was pretty good last year too, without Garrett. Red certainly deserves a ton of credit, but there are other good coaches doing spectacular work, too. The biggest improvements in the Dallas offense from last year have come at QB and OL, and I doubt Romo would be having an MVP-type season without the Pro Bowl play of some guys in front of him. I think Garrett's brother deserves props, too. We have the best set of TEs in the league. The blocking we're seeing from the TEs has improved dramatically.

I hope I'm wrong, I really, really do. But I think the chances of JG being the next head coach of the Cowboys are fairly slim.

I have been on this for a while. Check previous posts. He is gonna be the Giants next coach. This current GM only cares about looking smart right now. Hiring Garrett makes you look smart.

I'm not worried at all. Think about it guys..

If Jerry went through as much trouble as he's saying to get Garrett, then Garrett knows that he's wanted here. It's not like it was just some coordinator that somebody brought with them (Stewart)
Jones sought him out before any other coaches. He's know he's got a great job here, and will be the next head coach of the cowboys for many, many years. Any coach who has the chance to be a longtime coach of the Cowboys isn't too bright. He's staying.

That makes me wonder ... if Jerry had to choose, would we be better off without Garrett, or without Phillips?

Which one, Garrett or Phillips, has had more impact on this year's team over last year?
