I never said he was, but nobody who's not a flat out Sanders hater would look at the Colts with him and without him and say him being on the field makes it difficult to run on that team.

And you cant really use the "prolific" tackle label for anyone on that team cause they always dog pile packle anyway.
I wouldn't say him being on the team makes it difficult to run at all. As a running back I'd much rather face him than someone who is several inches taller and 20 or so lbs. heavier.

.....Give me the INT'S.... let the DL and LB's rack up the tackles!:)

I agree......if a safety is your leading tackler you have problems

Bob Sanders is good, but not anywhere near his hype. But, we're talking about sports in the 21st century... it's not that uncommon, is it? In fact, overrating/overpaying a player is the norm IMHO.

With RW on shacky ground, getting Hamlin a long term deal is huge. Next year, we may and stress may see Hamlin and Henry playing the FS and SS spots. Giving Hamlin a deal like Wilson shouldn't be a question, IMO>

Hamlin is a very good safety, Dallas would be wise to sign him, he's only 26 or 27, not bad...

:starspin I feel the same way, he's good and he's still young as well...sign him.

Yea, If Campo cannot turn Roy into the Roy of old then I think this is his last year with the team.

To this day, I still dont know what happened to Roy. Now I dont want to get into another "bash Roy" thread, but it is just shocking watching his play the first couple of years in the NFL and watching his play over the last 2 years.

It is like hitting a light switch, he is not the same player he used to be. Did he get fat off his deal? Did he lose his aggression with all the fines and suspension (see horse collar rule)? I honestly dont know.

Your first sentence was right on. Ints. don't mean that much, at least IMO. I'd much rather have a tackling machine that can cover. Sanders, when healthy, is good. Not that Hamlin isn't. I just think Sanders is a bit better.

You want a cover safety who gets tackles...obviously he isn't that great at covering if hes getting tackles, if he was good/great at covering he would gerenate ints while getting the tackles from the passes to the wideouts/rbs/tes

Sanders is good, but waaaaaay overrated. He excels at being Indy's hype man. But as a playmaker, there are better players out there.

I don't think he's overrated.

When Sanders is on the field the "D" plays alot better.

I can also say the same for Haynesworth in Tennesee.

Dallas Cowboys continue talks with Hamlin

09:27 PM CDT on Sunday, July 13, 2008
By TODD ARCHER / The Dallas Morning News
tarcher@***BANNED-URL***

IRVING – When he vacationed in Orlando last summer, agent Kennard McGuire brokered a long-term deal with Detroit for its franchise player, Cory Redding.

McGuire hopes the same can happen for another client this week, Cowboys' franchise player Ken Hamlin, although a deadline is approaching.

The Cowboys and McGuire have until 3 p.m. Tuesday to reach an agreement on a long-term deal or else the Pro Bowl safety can only play for the one-year tender offer of $4.396 million.

Since putting the franchise tag on Hamlin in March, the Cowboys were able to finalize multiyear deals for fellow Pro Bowlers Flozell Adams, Terence Newman, Terrell Owens and Marion Barber, among others.

Even as they vacationed, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones and McGuire kept negotiating on a multi-year deal last week, but the talks figure to take on more urgency.

With more than $8 million in salary-cap room, money has not been the issue, however, the structure of the contract has because of changes in the collective bargaining agreement coming next year.

Because he did not sign the tender, Hamlin did not take part in the team's off-season conditioning program, organized team activities or the mandatory mini-camp, but he has had contact with the defensive coaches. The Cowboys fly to Oxnard, Calif., on July 24 with their first training camp practice coming a day later.

Oh, INTs mean a lot. They mean a whole heckuva lot.

But if you want a tackling machine, Sanders definitely isn't your guy. He's never even led is own team in tackling. And over his 4 years, he's averaged the 8th leading solo tackler on his own team.

He's not really a coverage guy, and he's not really a pile up a bunch of tackles guy either. And he's also not really a guy that can stay healthy. I'm not really sure what he is, other than overrated.

he isn't a coverage guy in the sense that he will lock-down guys one on one, which safety is? but he reads route progressions really well, and seems to be where the ball is thrown, at least when I've watched him, the reason IMO that he doesn't have more INTs, is because he always plays the receiver, looking for the big hit and tackle, rather than the ball

Having a great pass rush helps a great deal.

The Cowboys and the agent for Pro Bowl safety Ken Hamlin are working through contract talks today and could reach a deal soon.
Three safeties of note signed big deals this off-season. The Jets retained Kerry Rhodes with a year left on his rookie deal. Oakland signed Gibril Wilson away from the Giants. Madieu Williams left Cincinnati for Minnesota.

Here's a look at the deals the other three signed:

Rhodes - five years, $33.5 million. He had 67 tackles, two sacks, 10 pass deflections and five interceptions in 2007.

Wilson - six years, $39 million. He had 92 tackles, 0 sacks, seven pass deflections and four interceptions in 2007.

Williams - six year, $33.75 million. He had 74 tackles, 0 sacks, seven pass deflections and two interceptions in 2007.

Hamlin - He had 62 tackles, 0 sacks, 15 pass deflections and five interceptions in 2007.

(note - the stats came from nfl.com to keep it relative. According to the coaches' film, Hamlin had 102 tackles last year.)
Hamlin had a highly productive season for the Cowboys and brought a stability to the secondary. He's a must-have and the Cowboys are doing what they can to keep him long-term.
You saw the money those guys got. Where does Hamlin come in?

Because of his Pro Bowl I think he gets close to Wilson's numbers

I dont think so either, he does have a problem staying on the field. But how can he be overrated when he won the DPOY award.

Sure, except that he's not.

Sanders isn't asked to cover in the Tampa 2, he's asked to play zone and know his assignments and be smart. He does all of those things pretty well. He may not be the best, but he's up there.
