Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

Your probably right ... but lately i think we have been giving guys contracts too soon before they are proven. (WR Roy Williams)

The secondary is so bad, I just think Jerra panicked and blinked.
As to the amount, it does seem in line with others. But if you consider the proportion of his talent (so far) to the money, it seems excessive.

starting corners have been getting 8-12 a year for over a decade. Scandricks deal is a soloid one and if he steps up we just saved a ton of money. prossman

As compared to the Giants, right now?:)

It's actually a very smart move. A 3rd corner is pretty much a starter in this league. Newman will probably be gone after this season anyway, and we can plug scandrick in his position.

We can just plug Scandrick in as a top corner based on what?

Maybe that he is presently starting and getting high support from the entire coaching staff...

Jerry is doing what we should've done with Doug Free after the 09 season (especially if everyone in house and around the league knew he was going to be a stud.)

Give the guy a slightly inflated deal before he has an above average contract year and some other desperate team swoops in and leaves a position of concern even more concerning.

But Scandrick isn't terrible, and it's very hard to find good CBs in the NFL now, so getting him for that rate is a deal. Especially when you read the fine print, Scandrick and his people probably just wanted that flashy 27 mil to show up when in reality he's getting paid what he's worth. 10 mil guaranteed isn't a lot and there are a lot of incentives in the contract so I think this is a very good move. If this pans out this could be a very sound move for the franchise. Kids got a high ceiling, and with a better pass rush and safety play I think you'll notice our corners magically get better again.

Someone didn't watch him play last year apparently.. when has OS ever proved to be even a reliable corner for us? Never. 10 mill guarenteed is silliness.

10 mil guaranteed over 5 years, that's 2 mil per. It's an incentive laden deal, make no mistake about it.

Wow, the dude got lit up like a freaking Christmas tree against the Chargers last week and we hand him $10 mill guaranteed.

Wow, whats next..............give Shankapotamus a new 7 yr deal?

What about the signing bonus? Maybe he is making 3 mill this year salary, 4 mill a year 2-4 then 5 mill his 5th year, plus got a 7 mill bonus? What are the incentives in his contract? I think the statement 2 mill a year is inaccurate whatever his terms are.

The $2 mill a year is the guaranteed money that he will make regardless of if we cut him of not. However, you are 100% correct that he will make a hell of alot more than $2 mill when you factor in base salary, incentives, roster bonuses, workout bonuses, ect.....

When you throw everything together, he now makes more money than Witten and Ratliff and gets lit up every freaking game.
