Cowboys Have Extended Orlando Scandrick... 5 Years/$27M

If Scandrick is our top corner we are in trouble. He is a average to above average nickle CB.

In today's pass happy NFL, we are doomed if Scandrick is truly our #1 CB.

Slot corner is a lot harder to play than right or left corner.

Even if Scandrick does become a starter the contract in comparison to other CB around the league is not that high

It's nowhere NEAR anything. Lots of overreaction, but what do you expect.

I just expect Scandrick to go out and make plays.

I will say after watching avg safeties getting 8 mill a year contracts this FA period, the Scandrick contract looks very mild

I think we learned from the Newman discussions that this board has zero concept what NFL CBs get paid. Or about what constitutes a good CB, for that matter. This thread was just reinforcement of the same lesson we learned in twenty or thirty separate threads this offseason.

After that crappy year last year this defense and in particular the secondary I would have waited until after the season and said "show me". If they play good .. they get the big contract .. if they dont play good i go get FAs and draft corners.

The slot is one of the hardest positions to play, you can't use the sideline as an extra man. I think he'd perform better on the outside.

We used to drop Newman into the slot for that very reason, it's a tough position to play.

I don't see what the big deal is. Next year when he's likely starting for Newman, especially if he continues to build off his second half of the 2010 season, we'll have a pretty solid starting Corner for practically nothing, when you compare it to a lot of starting corners salaries.

It's fun to read, though. About as fun as getting hit in the face with a medieval mace.

If Scandrick plays well this year, he will be a 25 year old free agent CB coming off a good year. You're are talking a minimum of $7-8 million a year to sign him. They have obviously penciled him in as a starter by next year and wanted to lock him up. If he becomes just an average starting CB, he will be a huge bargain as early as next season. It looks like too much money right now but thats what it takes to get a young player to pass on testing the free agent market.

Your probably right ... but lately i think we have been giving guys contracts too soon before they are proven. (WR Roy Williams)

Thanks guys. It's a pleasure to be back with ya.

Welcome back !!

This is good move IMO. If he was to hit FA someone would pay him starter money and want him to be a starter.

It's only 10 mil guaranteed. Considering what FA's were getting this year you can see the reasoning in being pro active as a gm.

I guess people just assumed he would play out his contract and not be brought back because he hasn't cracked the starting lineup yet. Maybe they're up in arms over the length of the deal? It can't be the money. He got half what Jonathan Joseph got after being a #2 CB.

IDK, at first glance I almost fell out of seat when I saw this contract. If you stop and think about it a little more though, it's pretty fair. At worst, Scandrick is a serviceable nickel corner who's also a tenacious tackler and good blitzer. In other words, he has value and you can do a lot of different things with him on the field. If he ever proves that he can play on the outside, he'll easily outperform this contract.BTW, 18 pages and counting on the nickel corner...God I love being a Dallas fan!

This signing reminds me of a few years back when Houston overpaid for Jacques Reeves...:banghead:
