Well, we needed a quarterback yesterday, and nothing has changed. Historically, quarterbacks taken after the 2nd round are hardly ever really good players. So, if we don't take one at 34, the guy we get later on probably won't end up being any better than Kellen Moore.

We seem to be in the sweet spot for a bonafide DL starter, I'm not sure what combination of later picks would hold that same value.

Now that Dr. Andrews has given the okay, I'd take a chance on Jack. Bit I think he goes to the Browns or Titans before he gets to us.

34 is for teams that want the next tier of QBs, I believe.
We won't use the second round on QB, so it's a good move. Draft your defensive guy behind them, and have an extra pick to use maneuvering for a particular player, even the QB you want in the right round.

There are about 7 or 8 players available that could be huge on the defense for us (in no particular order Jack, Robinson, Ragland, Reed, Spence, Jones, and Dodd would all be great picks by my measurement that could come in right away and make an impact). A slight trade down wouldn't be the end of the world, as those guys would probably still be there when we pick.

What if you lose out on a dl in doing so?

You don't trade down to the bottom, but we also have to remember that the Cowboys don't necessarily value players the way we fans do by name recognition. If they really want a particular pass rusher, they won't trade down. If they aren't really hot on any of these guys, they may be looking at an entirely different position. I like Dodd and Ogbah, but the real scouts may say these guys won't give you any more than you have in Mahwa (sp) and Russell.

Dallas won't miss out on those rushers unless they want to do so. There are guys with potential at DT and DE that we as fans aren't valuing as much.

5 teams trying to trade up but they couldn't reach one when Ogbah went at 32 and they tried to trade down. If you were watching the war room cam it was hilarious. The whole advantage of taking a guy that will miss at least a year and possibly never play is you get him cheap. We got ours with 1st rd talent still on the board. Starting caliber CB's, SS's etc. etc.

Much like when JJ took Quincey Carter after Al Davis whispered in his ear he was going to take Carter if we did not, someone must have told JJ some team was going to take Smith if we did not.
