ARLINGTON – The Dallas Cowboys have decided on a name for the team’s new stadium, but that’s being kept secret for now.

Officials however are willing to concede that they won’t have a corporate naming rights sponsor in time for the June 6 grand opening concert featuring George Strait. A month ago, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said he wouldn’t speculate about whether a naming rights deal would be secured by the stadium’s opening. On Thursday, the uncertainty was gone.

"There will be a [sponsored] name on it at some point," he said at a press conference at the stadium Thursday previewing the NFL draft and a new radio partner for the team. "We certainly want everyone to be aware of that. But not initially."

Cowboys executives have said previously that a non-sponsored name might be fairly similar to the current working name of Dallas Cowboys New Stadium. Something that simple and self-explanatory would fit in with its neighbor. The Texas Rangers’ stadium started out as The Ballpark in Arlington and now is called Rangers Ballpark in Arlington after a short stint with corporate sponsor Ameriquest from May 14, 2004 to March 18, 2007.

Jones also said there are still discussions about booking an AC/DC concert at the stadium, but it is not a done deal. The other rumored concerts, including Strait and U2, were eventually booked at the stadium.

i hope, just hope ,tom landry has a part in it.

doubt it.It would be the first time an owner names his stadium after a fired employee.

I do see Jerry Jones Stadium at Jerry Jones Park, Jerry Jones owner and General Manager

It's hard for me to believe that the Jones' don't recognize what a public relations service it would be to have Tom Landry's name associated with the new stadium.

We all know a corporate sponsor will eventually shell out enough cash to secure naming rights, but that shouldn't prevent us from honoring our first coach.

The playing field can be named in horor of coach Landry while the stadium itself may go through several sponsors before all is said and done.

Landry Field at "Fill in the blank" stadium.

"Cowboys Stadium" gets my vote until he manages to sell the naming rights.

That sure makes a lot of sense to me. But does Jerry feel that way?

Only Jerry knows.

Maybe he would feel a corporation shelling out all that cash doesn't want to share the bill with one of our heroes.

I'd have to wonder how any business wouldn't see the benefit in associating themselves with Tom Landry's name.

Fans aren't going to care about a company spending crazy money to have our new stadium named in their honor. Those same fans would appreciate and respect any company willing to have the playing field named after our iconic first head coach.

It would depend on who the corporate sponsor was. If it was Frito Lay or Dr. Pepper or something like that, it would work, but it would be a real issue if it was Tom Landry filed at Coors Light Stadium.

It's never going to happen. The fans have to let it go. We are not the only team in the NFL that has a influential first coach or coach period. Yes, the Packers honored their first coach. It was a nice gesture but it's not some thing Jerry needs to do or is obligated to do and it's not in the best financial interest of the team.

There are other ways to honor Landry that does not involve naming a stadium Jerry invested millions in himself or that could cost the team millions.

Most of us agree, but maybe they could name that new Cowboys Hall of Fame after Tom Landry. That would be a nice touch.
