He hasn't been the big factor that we had hoped for, so his loss - however temporary - isn't a huge one. Hopefully, the team can take care of things without him on Monday night so they won't have to worry about his availability until the playoffs.

But given the repeated issues, this is a roller coaster ride the team needs to get off of. Make plans for a replacement and don't get into any future financial deals with Lawrence.

Agreed.

If they choose I think the Cowboys can get back both he and Claiborne (if they want either) on relatively cheap 1-year deals.

When it's all said and done he'll have a month off to rest his back if we get Home field advantage. I rather this then rush him back now.

This team made a mistake switching back to a 4-3. Positions on the DL are so much harder to fill with the prevalence of 240 lb pass rushers coming into the league, which was already the trend when they switched.

"Saturation" drafts don't work.

Plus there are other positions of need on this club.

To go into any draft where you choose need over the best player available (within reason) is going to get you into serious trouble. This team has approached the draft that way– Choosing need instead of following their board.

If that first pick in the first round is an OT or a CB or a Safety or even a WR based on value... Then I'm A-OK with the Cowboys selecting him.

"Saturation drafts" have worked before. Parcells and the Cowboys remade their defense via the 'saturation draft of 2005, paving the way from 4-3 to 3-4 defense. They got Ware, Spears, Canty, and Ratliff that year

Use to say the same about OL as it comes to the draft.

Regardless the DE free agent market is going to stink... There is not going to be "that guy" there other than JPP and the Giants (and he) have both been making overtures are resigning– And probably at a "home town" discount.

Peppers is scheduled to be a free agent as well, if he decides to keep playing that is. I think that he'd make a great bridge player and veteran leader and example to Dallas' linemen.

But they were spread out... Not the first 4 guys taken.

And they were taken at spots that represented value... Even though Parcells wanted to screw it up by taking Spears first.

In addition Spears didn't knock my socks off as a 1st rounder... So that may not have worked so well.

I would think so, but given the injury histories, I wouldn't go any further than that.

It's going to take forever to get the DE positions settled... I seriously wouldn't mind dropping the first 4 picks in the draft on front seven players....
Think they found his replacement in 95. Let him go smoke his week and rest his back. Theres football to be played

Yeah, but virtually all of the top picks were used on the front 7, outside of Barber I think. That's saturation.

I agree. And Burnett was never worth that 2nd rounder either.

But overall, it was a great one and it quickly remade the defense.

Would you rather draft by reaching for need?
Because that's how you fail at drafting.

The way you fail at drafting is becoming ideological and thinking that one pole or the other is always the right choice.

"Best" is completely subjective anyway.

We drafted two 3-4 DE. The others were an edge rusher and a DT. Spears was mediocre and Canty left.

There is a difference between picking a lot of front 7 players and drafting a bunch of DT or DE or LB exclusively.
