Cowboys hope to keep Mexican Isaac Alarcon on final roster for regular season

Isaac Alarcon began this year's transition to defensive lineman in his last chance to stay with the Cowboys.

Mike McCarthy talks about the evolution of Isaac Alarcon

Dan Quinn said Alarcon has earned a real chance to compete for a spot after he's seen his progress since requesting the player transition to the defensive unit in December.

"He's going to be a factor for us. I love his talent, the size, his strength and he's mentally tough," he said.

Quinn observed Alarcon's capabilities last season as his physique resembles that of a natural defensive lineman prior to each game. In watching him, he concluded he had a potential player at that position.

"I've watched him since he got here. I've had my eyes on him and realized how tough he is in every aspect. I've always thought he's a lad we should include, help him develop. He's a quick kid, quicker than most offensive linemen. Defensively you have to have more speed (than offensively), so I think he's a good all-around fit. I have high expectations for him," he concluded.

They’re asked about a given player… they’re not going to say … oh yeah! Him! He sucks!!!

Last I looked, Dallas has 13 defensive linemen. Keeping one who's having to transition to an entirely different position seems odd, unless they're planning on releasing several others.

Maybe they're just trying to keep some certain fans by having him on the team, butt that's pure supposition on my part, maybe they see something in him we don't.

I'll give him a chance, like anybody else....

I don't see how he makes the 53. Feel good story but the NFL talent just isn't there.
I agree. I can’t think of many - if any - success stories when a guy is changing sides of the ball after this many years in the league.

No way he is even ahead of Gallimore and Bohanna. Especially on what they seen from OTA's after the move.
As MM said, wait to see in pads. But even that may not mean as much. Let's see extended playing time in PS games.

I will wait for the comments...it is mandated by Jerry to make $$$$ ... and this time I can't disagree.....

They have regret wasting a first on Mazi when Mexican Alarcon is now a Defensive Tackle.
