Cowboys in Potential Trade Talks for Greg Ellis

So we just need to trade Ellis to a team in the late 80's, early 90's.

Okay.

Well, we also have to turn him into Charles Haley.

To get him in time for TC, IF we do cut him which i really don't think we will it won't be until we have to which would probably be after TC
But the team just sent Greg Ellis home prior to the Thursday OTA because of the slim possibility he might injure himself, land on IR and collect his entire salary for this season.

Unless they decide to keep El because a trade doesn't materialize, he will not be allowed to go to camp and risk injury for the above reason.

Okay.

Are you implying that Haley couldn't dominate today at the exact same height and weight? Charles didn't play in the 1950s, you know. The game hasn't changed that much since he retired.

Ellis should have never been a Cowboy in the first place. Randy Moss should have been drafted! Ellis should have definitely been cut 3 years ago. I will be so happy the day he is finally cut or traded.

Exactly. Some people will wail if we release him instead of trading him, but the vast majority of us realize we probably will not get a trade and will release him anyway, just like Roy. It doesn't change the fact they are trying to trade him before they have to do that. Ellis has more value than Roy because of the sack abilities.

I think he will end up being released and am not banking on a trade. I think the cap room we recover is more valuable than he is and I think if we keep him it means we expose either Victor Butler or Brandon Williams to Free Agency and the Practice Squad.

I am not willing to do that. Goodbye Greg and thank you.
You're right, there will be some wailers. But even if we get a pick there will be some of those with the "we gave him away too cheap" and "Jerry is an idiot".

I know. You hear both sides of that spectrum regardless of what we do.

I just don't think anyone can make a compelling argument to keep him that makes more sense than getting rid of him, no matter which way we do it.

A lot can be said about Charles Haley being a bad locker room influence and all that, but he was a pure football player.

He didn't smile or waste time with sack dances.

He chased and punished quarterbacks.

I liked him even as a Niner and that is saying something.

Baby come back, any kind of fool could see
There was something, in everything about you
Baby come back, you can blame it all on me
I was wrong, and I just can't live without you

:laugh2: Will he take a pay cut for the team?

Are there any aging, malcontent, high-paid WRs out there we can swap him for? A possible marginal number two if Austin doesn't pan out?

If we can get Kitna for Henry, maybe there's someone of immediate value we can bargain for rather than a low-round pick or outright release.

Wait, I got it ... swap Ellis for TO !!!

:banghead: Austin doesn't need to "pan out" for us to have success on offense this year...addition by subtraction.
