Dallas Interested In Simms

It is unclear where Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms will end up, but there are teams interested in him.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported earlier this week Dallas was interested in trading for Simms, who is currently unhappy in Tampa.
There are other teams interested in Simms, but Tampa Bay will eventually have to figure out which team is willing to offer it the best deal. Since most teams know Tampa Bay has no use for Simms, and will eventually cut him, the odds of any organization trading anything substantial to the Bucs for him are very slim.
Simms played for the University of Texas and is still popular there, making Dallas a good fit for him. Of course, any city but Tampa is a good fit for Simms at this point.
No matter what, Simms previously said he would show up for training camp if he was on a Bucs roster, but knows his presence will provide a daily distraction to every player. Tampa Bay may not care and hope to showcase Simms’ talent in the preseason to increase his trade value, which would shift the Bucs’ entire preseason attention on him.

I prefer Simms to our soon to be 40 yr old backup. At least Simms is mobile and has a good arm. Area of concern was decision making which he was improving on before his serious injury. I say go get Simms to be Romo's backup.

And watch Green Bay's QB roster...if Favre is back then one of the two draft picks this year is gone. Don't know as much about Matt Flynn, but he is probably worth a look.

Problem is that Simms has been out of action for way to long. I wouldn't feel comfortable if something happened to Romo and Simms had to come in.

So you don't think he can shake off the dust during the summer training camp and preseason games? I would feel a lot better with Simms (provided it is the Simms right before his injury).

I don't, my friend. Sorry, if it was a different position like RB, I'd might say yes but at QB you need to be consistant and accurate. Simms was none of that.

I'd rather keep Johnson. Simms is a JAG.

I disagree. I think Simms has the ability and he was playing much better right before his injury. The question that must be answered is "can he come back and continue to improve or did the injury psychologically mess him up"...he has been in the Gruden dog house in TB.

Until he goes to another team, we won't know....

People have to ask if Simms is an upgrade over Johnson. IMO, there isn't much difference between the two. Yes, Simms is older but at least Brad Johnson has been in and around football whether it was camp or Preseason games.

I understand your position. I guess I would give him another shot since he is young and he was improving prior to the injury. Someone will give him a shot, so we will know then....

Simms has been out for a long, long time. It's tough to come back mentally from an injury like that coupled with Simms was not an elite QB from the start. Just look at Culpepper and Leftwich.

I respect your opinion but if Romo went down, ask yourself if you would feel comfortable with Simms stepping in after being out of football for almost two years?

I'd feel a lot more comfortable with Simms than I am with Johnson. Brad is way past his prime.

I still like the idea of Simms -- but I can't see anyone in this league giving up more than a 7th

Bucs QB Chris Simms may be on the verge of receiving his year-long wish for an escape from Tampa, the way we hear it. Reports recently surfaced that the Cowboys were interested in trading for Simms to make him a backup to Tony Romo. Sources tell PFW the Bears and Lions have shown interest in acquiring the fifth-year veteran, as well. Word is there's a good chance Simms will be with another team around the time training camp begins. -- Pro Football Weekly

It will be interesting to see where Simms lands, how he does in his comeback, and if he will have time to gradually comeback or immediately be thrown into action. He needs to go to a strong team where he can be the backup while getting back into the game....that is why I thought he would be good here.

Once he is back to form (if he gets back to form), he is an upgrade over any of our other backups.

If he was thrown into action here, we would be doomed, season over.

I don't think anymore doomed than with Brad Johnson at the helm. Actually I think Simms even with his time off is better than Johnson at this point in Johnson's career.

So I'm hoping we get him as our backup. I think it would solve the back QB position for however long we sign him.
