I don't think anymore doomed than with Brad Johnson at the helm. Actually I think Simms even with his time off is better than Johnson at this point in Johnson's career.

So I'm hoping we get him as our backup. I think it would solve the back QA position for however long we sign him.

Brad Johnson maybe old but has a superbowl ring and is a savvy vet unlike Simms who just isn't a Pro Quarterback.

I'd rather keep Johnson. Simms is a JAG.
Please. If you want 5 yard dump passes where our RB's are gonna get killed go for it. If you want a younger, stronger arm backup QB who has started in the league and eager to prove he can still do it. Go with Simms. If Romo gets injured I can see Simms keeping things together which is all you want from your backup. If Johnson is backup QB we go in the tank in a hurry if he has to play.

Another please. Trent Dilfer, Jeff Hostetler and other not so good QB's have Super Bowl rings too. If you want savvy call up a relief pitcher out the bullpen. This isn't baseball. Simms has played a total of 19 games. In his one semi-full season in 05, he had a QB rating of 81.4, 61% completion, 10 TD's, 7 ints., finished 7-4. He can play the position.

So basically all this says is that another article said that we were intrested in Chris Simms.

and that means Dallas intrest in Chris Simms is growing?

Simms has something that I like in a backup -- a solid arm -- if we had to play without Romo for a game or two, Simms could come in and, provided that we only made him throw like 15 times in a game, could come up with a big long pass or two.

There are two general classes of backup QBs -- smart and poor arm -- stupid and good arm. If you are good on both then you are starting somewhere.

I'm with stupid.

If Romo goes down we are screwed either way so I'll take the vet any day.

Didn't he just sign a medium sized new contract?

Depending on the numbers, I would rather wait till he is cut and then sign him for a lot less money then he is currently making.

If the Boys trade for him, his contract would most likely stay the same.

As a lifelong UT fan, I have an extreme amount of disdain for Chris Simms. I don't like him at all.

With that being said, he showed me something for the first time ever, when he played with that ruptured spleen. For the first time, he seemed to play like a warrior instead of a silver spoon prima donna pansy. I think the light finally clicked on and TB is foolish for letting him go.

He is young and has a strong arm. He seems to have been humbled over the past few years and is willing to be a backup. With Wilson and Garrett, he will get some very solid coaching.

I am all for getting Simms if he is available.

I can bet the guys that want Simms are UT fans. Simms is one of the most overrated players coming out of school. If it wasn't for his daddy, Simms JR would even be talking about him. He was a good college player that will not amount to much in the NFL.

I would rather have Simms backing up Romo than 40 year old Brad Johnson.

Dallas Interested In Simms

It is unclear where Tampa Bay quarterback Chris Simms will end up, but there are teams interested in him.
The Fort Worth Star Telegram reported earlier this week Dallas was interested in trading for Simms, who is currently unhappy in Tampa.
There are other teams interested in Simms, but Tampa Bay will eventually have to figure out which team is willing to offer it the best deal. Since most teams know Tampa Bay has no use for Simms, and will eventually cut him, the odds of any organization trading anything substantial to the Bucs for him are very slim.
Simms played for the University of Texas and is still popular there, making Dallas a good fit for him. Of course, any city but Tampa is a good fit for Simms at this point.
No matter what, Simms previously said he would show up for training camp if he was on a Bucs roster, but knows his presence will provide a daily distraction to every player. Tampa Bay may not care and hope to showcase Simms’ talent in the preseason to increase his trade value, which would shift the Bucs’ entire preseason attention on him.

How does this article show that the Cowboys' interest is increasing?

it doesn't, it's just left-field conjecture being reinforced by more, half-*** conjecture

so there's really no semblence of truth, although that may in fact be the truth, but they report it to be as such anyways

3rd spot has to be for a developmental QB

actually, most of us UT fans despise Simms. We saw how he ruined our chance at a National Championship during the Applewhite years. we saw how he was pampered cause of his Daddy's name.

I want Simms, not because I am a UT fan.....but because I want a backup QB that isn't drawing social security. I want a backup QB who doesn't get the senior discount at IHOP and the movies.

Simms is young, has a very strong arm, and has seemed to be humbled by his struggles in TB. He is willing to be the backup here in Dallas. He has starter experience and I would feel much better with him instead of Old Man Johnson.
